Jake Paul Files Counterlawsuit Against Eddie Hearn in Response to $100 Million Free Speech Lawsuit

Jake Paul has launched a countersuit against boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, asserting that the Matchroom Boxing executive aims to suppress his freedom of speech.

Since making his entry into boxing, Jake Paul has engaged in numerous verbal confrontations with a range of critics, including fellow athletes, iconic figures, analysts, and promoters alike. He has truly faced a diverse group of opponents.

The ‘Problem Child’ has encountered his fair share of issues with Eddie Hearn. Although Hearn was the promoter for Jake’s inaugural professional match, he later distanced himself and began to publicly question Jake’s boxing abilities, joining the ranks of those who dismiss the YouTuber-turned-boxer as nothing more than a novelty act.

Legal battles have been a part of their history as well. In September 2022, Hearn and Matchroom initiated a lawsuit against Jake, claiming damages exceeding $100 million and alleging that judge Glenn Feldman was “bribed” to favor Matchroom fighters.

“This kind of behavior is unacceptable in boxing, and I’m calling it out for what it is — complete nonsense. It’s apparent that this guy is receiving payments from Matchroom Boxing,” Jake tweeted in the aftermath of the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.

After a period of relative silence, Jake has now countersued Hearn, contending that this legal action is an “intimidation tactic”employed by Matchroom to “deter Jake Paul’s freedom of expression and to muzzle other critics within the boxing community.”

Jake and Eddie have had intense disputes during their encounters.

As highlighted by MMAFighting’s Damon Martin, Jake had previously sought to have the initial lawsuit dismissed, but his request was rejected, leading to the need for this new countersuit.

With his countersuit, Jake aims to “prevent Matchroom from continuing to wield costly and protracted legal actions to impede the free speech of journalists, media entities, and others discussing matters of public concern.”

He is also seeking reimbursement for his attorney’s fees and compensation for damages. Perhaps, in an interesting twist, the two might end up facing off in the ring someday.
