It has been strongly advised for Jake Paul to wear a headguard for his upcoming fight against Mike Tyson in July. The concern is that a single punch from ‘Iron Mike’ could potentially have serious repercussions for the ‘Problem Child’.
Despite claims to the contrary, Paul and his team have strongly refuted the idea that he and Tyson will be wearing headguards during their highly anticipated match on Netflix’s inaugural live boxing broadcast.
Despite facing tough opponents such as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, and Vitali Klitschko, Derek Chisora believes that it would be unwise for Paul to not wear head protection when he fights against Tyson.
Chisora questioned, “In the presence of a 100-year-old crippled lion in the same room as you, what would be your course of action?”he asked Crypto Casino LTD.
“The main idea is that Mike Tyson will always be ‘Iron Mike’ regardless of his age. One well-placed punch is all it takes.”
Despite wearing a headguard, the former world heavyweight contender acknowledged that Paul may still decide to remove it upon entering the ring as he transitions from a YouTuber to a boxer.
“When the announcement was made, I predicted that they would have headguards and 16-ounce gloves,”Chisora added.
“While it is currently planned for the fighters to wear headguards and gloves, there is always a possibility that this may change. Given Jake Paul’s unpredictable nature, he may enter the ring with a headguard and then decide to remove it.”
The boxing community is split on Paul’s upcoming fight against Tyson. Fury believes it will be great for the sport, but Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has referred to it as a “freak show.”
Despite the 30-year age difference between the two fighters, there are significant concerns surrounding their upcoming fight. Some are worried that Tyson may sustain serious injuries during the match.
Despite concerns about the health of boxing legend Tyson, his trainer Rafael Cordeiro has reassured that the 57-year-old is in excellent condition.
