James McAvoy’s Villain Inspired by Andrew Tate

The most frightening thing about having to watch the Speak No Evil trailer before every single movie is the knowledge of the real-life inspiration behind James McAvoy’s terrifying villain.

Despite being criticized for excessive marketing, the upcoming horror film, adapted from the 2022 Danish version, is already gaining attention. And let’s be honest, James McAvoy’s portrayal of a two-faced psychopath is enough to pique our interest.

In the 2024 horror adaptation, Paddy, portrayed by James McAvoy, forms a friendship with a couple and their young daughter while on vacation. However, when the couple and their daughter are invited to Paddy’s country farm for a retreat, they soon discover that things are not as they appear.

McAvoy portrays the enigmatic and twisted antagonist in a chilling cautionary tale about the complexities of parenthood and masculinity. In an interview with Empire, the star of Speak No Evil shared that he drew parallels between Paddy and a controversial real-life figure: Andrew Tate.

“In discussing his character, the actor revealed that he saw him as a West Country version of Andrew Tate, which was something he believed he could take advantage of.”

“He said, ‘I will show you how to be a man once more.’ However, there was a certain politeness to his approach that didn’t quite match Andrew Tate’s persona, with a hint of ‘I am not like those other guys.’”

Paddy is provoking you by asking, “Do you think you have the capacity to join me for a drink?”Or, “I apologize if this is overwhelming for you because you lack authenticity.”

Tate, the polarizing internet personality known for his outspoken views on masculinity, is currently under investigation for new accusations involving sexual relations with a minor and involvement in human trafficking.

In August 2024, Tate was put on house arrest while the investigation is ongoing.

The release date for Speak No Evil is set for September 13, 2024.
