Japanese fast-food chain Pizza-La has introduced a pet-friendly pizza specifically designed for dogs.
In today’s competitive restaurant landscape, fast-food chains are finding innovative ways to attract customers, especially with the advent of food delivery services like Uber Eats and DoorDash. Pizza establishments, in particular, are excelling at introducing unique offerings.
For instance, Pizza Hut has creatively repurposed their pizza boxes for various uses—from helping students move into their college dorms to even acting as a creative resume for job applications. However, Pizza-La has taken a significant leap by catering to a niche and growing clientele of pet owners.
Thanks to the brilliant minds at Pizza-La, pet owners can now place orders for their dogs, with pizzas specially crafted for canine consumption. This new initiative also features nationwide delivery to your beloved furry friend.
Unfortunately, Pizza-La’s Doggy Pizzas are still delivered by humans.
Pizza-La’s “Wanko” (which means “Doggy”in Japanese) Pizzas have been available since 2021, originally sold through select third-party pet stores. After a warm response from pet owners, Pizza-La began offering the Wanko Pizza in select locations, expanding its availability.
The enthusiasm from pet parents in Japan led to the nationwide rollout of the Wanko Pizza, with delivery services starting on September 9, 2024. Don’t fret; this isn’t just any typical meat-lovers pizza.
The Wanko Pizza is inspired by Pizza-La’s best-selling teriyaki chicken pizza, ensuring that all ingredients have been approved by Comfi Deli, a specialized Japanese pet food company, making them safe for dogs. The pizza features toppings like teriyaki chicken, corn, mushrooms, and shredded seaweed, with a chicken base instead of traditional dough, making it entirely pet-friendly.
If you’re traveling in Japan with your dog, treat them to this unique culinary experience. Keep in mind that the specialized doggy pizza will arrive frozen; it requires approximately six hours to thaw or just two minutes in the microwave before your furry companion can savor it.
