On October 29th, a Japanese media outlet reported that a model has sparked widespread discussion after posting unretouched identification photos on her social media, revealing her extensive plastic surgery history, which amounted to over 20 million yen.
The individual at the center of the story is Hirase Airi, a social media influencer who has undergone an impressive 25 cosmetic procedures since she completed high school in 2017.
Airi’s journey into plastic surgery began at the age of 15 when she started saving for her procedures by working various jobs in moving and security from the age of 16. So far, her total investment in surgeries has reached around 24 million yen, which equates to nearly $160,000 USD.
Her initial surgical procedure involved eye surgery at 19, followed by hyaluronic acid injections in her forehead, nose, and chin, as well as a nose bridge enhancement. Additionally, she opted for breast augmentation costing approximately 1.7 million yen (about $11,000 USD). However, her most costly surgery was jaw reconstruction, which set her back 4.37 million yen (around $28,500 USD).
In the unedited photos Airi shared from her driver’s license, passport, and school graduation album, her appearance vastly contrasts with her current look. Discussing her choice to reveal these earlier, unfiltered images, she commented, “I became well-known for showcasing my plastic surgery experiences along with before-and-after images on social media,” adding, “It has led to numerous interview requests and TV appearances, which has been a pleasantly surprising outcome.”
She expressed her desire to inspire others struggling with self-image issues, saying, “I hope to encourage those who face challenges with their looks, just as I did, motivating them to take steps toward resolving their insecurities.” Notably, Airi admitted, “I hadn’t fully contemplated my plans post-fame; my current achievements are beyond what I had envisioned.”
What motivated Airi to invest so heavily in cosmetic procedures? In a past interview, she revealed that her decisions stemmed from ongoing criticism about her looks from her mother and bullying from peers.
Airi shared, “As a child, I was often called cute, but during middle school, my self-esteem plummeted, and I started despising my reflection,” adding, “I believe my confidence began to build after undergoing my first eye surgery in high school.”
Today, Airi has emerged as a well-known influencer, boasting over 4 million followers, and she currently serves as the CEO of a beauty-oriented enterprise.
