Jeff Wittek Calls Out Casey Neistat for Shielding David Dobrik by Withholding Documentary

Jeff Wittek Critiques Casey Neistat’s Decision on David Dobrik Documentary

Jeff Wittek, a former member of the infamous YouTube collective known as the ‘Vlog Squad’, has publicly criticized filmmaker Casey Neistat for allegedly “protecting” David Dobrik by withholding a documentary that chronicles Dobrik’s rise and fall on YouTube. This controversy is rooted in an ongoing feud between Wittek and Dobrik that has escalated over the past few years.

The Rise and Fall of David Dobrik

During the late 2010s, David Dobrik was a titan of YouTube, captivating millions with his high-energy vlogs filled with youthful antics and the quintessential Southern California lifestyle. This represented a stark departure from the family-oriented content that had previously dominated the platform, especially following the ‘Adpocalypse’ era.

However, in 2021, Dobrik’s ascent took a dramatic turn for the worse as numerous allegations plagued him and his crew. The most serious accusations involved rape allegations against crew member Dominykas Zeglaitas, popularly known as ‘Durte Dom’. Controversially, footage of the incident had featured prominently in one of Dobrik’s videos, igniting public outrage and leading to a loss of several lucrative sponsorships.

Wittek’s Injury and Ongoing Rivalry

Jeff Wittek’s tumultuous relationship with Dobrik intensified after an incident involving an excavator stunt that left Wittek severely injured. This mishap has fueled a long-standing animosity between the two, with Wittek expressing his resentment on various platforms.

The Documentary and Casey Neistat’s Stance

Amid these upheavals, Casey Neistat announced he was creating a documentary that would encapsulate Dobrik’s life, following both his spectacular success and the subsequent fall from grace. Although the film was previewed at SXSW two years ago, it has yet to see an official release.

Recently, Neistat expressed that he feels protective of Dobrik, which could explain his reluctance to share the documentary with the public. In response to this, Wittek released a video titled “F**k Casey Neistat,”celebrating the fact that Neistat had shown him the documentary while criticizing him for choosing to withhold it.

Wittek’s Reaction: A Call for Accountability

In his video, Wittek confronts Neistat’s motivations for withholding the documentary, emphasizing, “You sat down with a girl who was assaulted and spoke with her about the most traumatic moment of her life, and you’re going to bury the story to protect this kid?” He further asserted that the victim was not seeking fame; she merely wanted her story told to expose the wrongdoer.

The Future of David Dobrik and the Vlog Squad

Wittek shared his insights on the current state of the Vlog Squad, suggesting that its members are waiting for Dobrik to regain his fame. Despite their dreams of a comeback, he remains skeptical about the likelihood of Dobrik’s return to the limelight. Currently, Dobrik has limited his presence on YouTube while maintaining an active Snapchat account and operating his pizza business, Doughbrik’s Pizza.

As of now, the future remains uncertain. Wittek’s opinions and criticisms highlight the ongoing complexities surrounding the YouTube community, raising important questions about accountability and the responsibilities of creators in the digital age.
