Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night anime recreates PSY’s iconic dance move in the most unimaginable way

The fifth episode of Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night aired on May 4, 2024. It showcased the JELEE group’s response to their debut music video being released online, but things did not go according to their expectations.

The video that JELEE intended to upload was switched with a perplexing video that had no connection to their group. This was orchestrated by Mahiru, the group’s illustrator. Surprisingly, the video gained unexpected popularity, not for its originality, but for its bizarreness.

The sight was a thrilling one, and while everyone was caught up in the excitement, no one could match Mahiru’s level of enthusiasm. As the mastermind behind the mistake, she closely monitored the JELEE account and once it reached a significant amount of views, she marked the occasion with a unique dance move that bore a striking resemblance to a popular Korean singer’s signature routine.

Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night is a unique anime series that tells the tale of Machiru Kouzuki, who rediscovers her passion for drawing after losing confidence in her skills several years ago. She decides to pick up her pen once again as an illustrator.

Former idol Kano Yamanouchi formed a music group called JELEE and appointed Mayuri as the illustrator. Together, they recruited pianist Kim Anouk Mei Takanashi and streamer Kiui Watase to create a legitimate music group with the goal of reaching a global audience through their music videos and songs.

In Episode 4, the entire JELEE group put in all their effort to create a music video. Despite working tirelessly throughout the day, Mahiru managed to upload the video early the next morning.

In episode 5 of “Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night,”the girls woke up and were taken aback when they discovered that their music video had gone viral on the internet, garnering 162k views in just a few hours. This unexpected turn of events was due to Mahiru accidentally uploading the wrong video, which was so bizarre that a fan even deemed it to be cursed.

Despite already gaining recognition and being placed on the map of famous music groups, the JELEE group continued to make waves in the industry with their latest music video. While others were focused on expanding their group, Mahiru had different priorities and was instead relishing in the increasing number of followers on their group’s page.

Mahiru’s friend invited her to go out, but she turned down the invitation, explaining that she had other responsibilities to attend to. These tasks included managing JELEE’s social media presence. When she returned home, she attempted to focus on studying but found herself easily distracted by her phone. She ended up logging onto the group’s social media page and sharing a celebratory post, dancing in excitement.

The dance moves Mahiru executed were reminiscent of a well-known song called Daddy, which was released in 2015 and performed by the renowned South Korean rapper PSY (Park Jae-Sang). Since the beginning of his career in the 2010s, the singer has been a viral sensation on the internet.

In 2012, he reached his pinnacle with the release of his hit song Gangnam Style. It quickly became a global sensation and was the most viewed video on YouTube that year. Mahiru performing the same dance moves as PSY could be a sign that she, too, is on the path to worldwide fame, similar to the Korean singer.
