On the 30th, Jennie posted a story on her Instagram of a person joyfully holding a birthday cake, expressing her well-wishes. The individual in the picture is recognized as BLACKPINK’s stylist.
Earlier, Jennie stirred up a controversy for her actions of ‘indoor smoking’ and ‘smoking in front of staff’ when she blew smoke towards a staff member who was doing her makeup. However, she promptly issued an apology through her agency.
On the 9th, Jennie’s agency, OA Entertainment, issued a statement expressing their sincerest apologies to anyone who may have been offended by Jennie’s actions in the content released on the 2nd.
The agency stated that Jennie is currently contemplating the impact of smoking indoors and the inconvenience it may cause to other staff members. Additionally, she has personally reached out to the staff member who was present at the time to apologize directly.
Despite being adored for her pure and innocent image, Jennie’s reputation took an unexpected hit when her company mistakenly posted a damaging video.
On the 22nd, Jennie was voted as the top celebrity in a poll on the community portal site DC Inside, which focused on ‘Stars whose reputation has been tarnished by smoking.’
Out of 92,318 votes cast in the poll conducted from the 15th to the 21st, Jennie received 8,410 of them, which accounted for 10% of the total votes.
Lee Chaeyoung, a member of fromis_9, was awarded second place with 7,940 votes (9%). This was despite being labeled as a smoker after sharing a photo on social media that featured an object believed to be an electronic cigarette.
Do Kyungsoo, a member of the popular group EXO and a talented actor, secured third place with a total of 7,935 votes (9%). However, he faced criticism after a video of him blowing smoke through his nose in a waiting room was posted on YouTube, showcasing his indoor smoking behavior.
Despite the common belief that electronic cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes, the fundamental act of inhaling nicotine remains unchanged. According to existing regulations, buildings utilized for office spaces, factories, and mixed-use facilities with a combined floor area of 1,000 square meters or more are considered non-smoking zones. Violators who smoke in these designated areas may be fined up to 100,000 won.
