Despite receiving a low Rotten Tomatoes score, Jerry Seinfeld’s latest movie has quickly climbed to the top spot on Netflix’s top 10 chart since its release on the streaming platform.
Seinfeld’s reputation as a comedian is well-known, thanks to his successful self-titled ’90s sitcom and his popularity on the stand-up comedy circuit.
Therefore, upon hearing the announcement that he would be at the helm of a new Netflix film featuring a star-studded lineup of renowned comedians, expectations were elevated. The project in question is Unfrosted, inspired by the real-life events surrounding the inception of Pop-Tarts.
In addition to Seinfeld, the cast of Unfrosted features Bill Burr, Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Max Greenfield, Hugh Grant, and Amy Schumer. The film was released on May 3 and quickly climbed to the top spot on the US top 10 movies chart.

Despite its success in streaming, Unfrosted has received negative reviews from critics, only earning a low 41% rating. However, audiences have also not been entirely satisfied, giving it a 49% rating.
The main critique? It lacks humor. According to the Houston Chronicle, “The comedy is only superficial and lacking depth, leaving little material to hold onto beyond its inherent silliness.”
Rolling Stone stated that despite assembling a great cast of comedians, the success rate of the jokes in “Unfrosted”is not as high as desired. The Chicago Sun-Times did not hold back,
In its positive review, Deadline stated, “Humor takes precedence over information. This makes for an enjoyable and nostalgic film experience.”
Unfrosted has left audiences just as divided, as many believe it is better suited for a more mature audience. If you want to form your own judgement, the film can currently be streamed on Netflix.
