On October 16, Jessi made an appearance at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul for interrogation. Reports indicate that the inquiry primarily centered on the identity of the assailant, their connection to Jessi, and the sequence of events that transpired during the incident.
Donning a low-brimmed black hat, Jessi addressed the media, stating, “I hope the person who attacked the fan is identified quickly and brought to justice,” while expressing her commitment to complete cooperation with the investigation. When questioned if it was her initial encounter with the assailant, she confirmed, “Yes, it was the first time,” and extended her apologies to the victim.
Earlier, the JTBC program “Crime Chief” aired newly obtained CCTV footage of the incident. The clip displays the victim, who had requested a photo with Jessi, being obstructed by Koala, a producer, prior to the sudden assault by the attacker, which was recorded from a close angle.
Significantly, after the incident, both the assailant and Jessi’s entourage were seen moving in the same direction. The footage provided a clear view of the attacker’s build, hairstyle, and tattoos on both arms. Hwang Min-gu, the head of the Forensic Video Analysis Institute, noted an 84% similarity between the individual in the footage and the suspect.
This incident took place on September 29 in Seoul, when a minor fan sought a photo with Jessi. She promptly intervened, courteously declining the request. However, the victim asserts that a man approached from behind and struck her. Although CCTV evidence shows Jessi trying to prevent the assault, she was observed leaving the scene afterward, which sparked controversy.
Currently, Jessi and her team are being investigated following the filing of assault charges by the victim.
In light of the rising controversy, Jessi’s agency informed the victim that the assailant was a “Chinese acquaintance of a producer closely associated with Jessi.”
On October 12, Jessi took to Instagram to apologize, clarifying that she had declined the fan’s request respectfully and highlighting that the attacker was someone she had met for the first time that evening. She mentioned, “Since the incident, my agency and I have been in touch with the victim’s mother, ensuring the swift identification of the assailant, their apology, and compensation, as well as appropriate punishment for the culprit.”
Finally, she urged, “Please avoid reporting based on unverified claims or assumptions regarding this situation.”
