On July 24th, Hallyu star Ji Chang-wook made a guest appearance on tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block”broadcast.
On the show, Ji Chang-wook shared a story about his high school best friend who is now the CEO of his agency. According to the actor, their friendship dates back to their first year of high school. After his friend became his manager, he eventually rose to become the CEO of the agency. During a time when all the managers had left the company, Ji Chang-wook asked his friend, who was working part-time in Anyang, if he wanted to become his manager and work with him. This marked the start of their working relationship.
Moreover, Ji Chang-wook shared a story about his CEO friend who was worn out from filming at night and traveling to distant locations. He recalled, “Whenever I woke up, we were at another rest stop. We had to keep stopping to rest and sleep. Normally, the trip would have only taken 2.5-3 hours, but it ended up taking us 9 hours”, causing everyone to burst into laughter.
Ji Chang-wook specifically emphasized his affection for his mother, stating, “My mom is the one who motivates me.”
Ever since his father passed away and his mother faced immense hardship, he has felt a strong desire to protect her as a son, a family member, and a man.
Reflecting on his past, the actor shared, “During my youth, my mother managed both a meat restaurant and a spicy fish stew restaurant. Despite being a small establishment, she single-handedly ran the operations. However, on hectic days, I would often lend a hand with serving.”He went on to say, “Cleaning the grilling pan was the most challenging task at the meat restaurant, whereas it was the tank at the spicy fish stew restaurant.”
According to Ji Chang-wook, he was unable to afford the high tuition fees of a regular school, so he had to find a way to make money. He worked part-time with a friend who is now the CEO of his company, and the job that brought in the most income was delivery service. He also revealed that his main motivation was to alleviate his mother’s financial struggles and ensure she would never have to worry about money again.
Despite being a busy actor, Ji Chang-wook still shows love and care for his Mom. However, he is aware that material things may not fully satisfy her. Instead, he believes that spending quality time together is the best way to make her happy. He makes an effort to have dinner with her whenever he can, treating her like a friend. In moments when he is feeling mentally drained from life and work, simply seeing his Mom going about her daily routine brings him comfort and healing.
