During an interview, Jisoo, a member of the popular K-pop group BLACKPINK, discussed her upbringing and how it shaped her experience as a trainee at YG Entertainment.
Despite facing many challenges, BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has emerged as a renowned female idol with a massive fan base. Her journey to success was far from smooth, as she underwent a rigorous training period with YG Entertainment. Yet, little is known about her unconventional upbringing.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Jisoo shared that her parents gave her permission to skip school on days when she didn’t feel like going. She remembers times when her father noticed her being upset and instead of making her attend school, he allowed her to stay at home and relax. Jisoo mentioned to Rolling Stone,
“Back then, I didn’t think much of it, but there were days when I didn’t want to go to school, and my parents would let me stay home. I’d wake up in the morning, frowning because I didn’t want to go. My father would say, ‘What’s wrong? Why the long face?’ I’d reply, ‘Dad, I’m so tired, I just want to sleep.’ And then my dad would respond, ‘Okay. Then don’t go.’”
Despite this, Jisoo’s lenient parents did not sit well with her teachers, who confronted her with the question, “What do you plan to do with your life?”Jisoo, who is the youngest of three children, believes that her parents’ leniency may have been due to her birth order.
“It’s not that my parents neglected me. I think they loved me very much, especially because I am the youngest. They were more comfortable letting me do what I wanted.”
Contrary to the strictness commonly associated with Asian parents, this parenting style presents a stark contrast.

Despite being raised in a relaxed environment, Jisoo faced difficulties when she joined YG Entertainment as a trainee. The company had strict rules and regulations that she had to conform to, making it a challenging transition. In an interview, she shared that she had to teach herself to abide by these rules, saying,
“It was tough when I joined YG Entertainment, where there were a lot of rules. I had to train myself to be patient and endure.”
Fans have long been fascinated by the details surrounding Jisoo’s parents. Multiple sources have claimed that her father holds a high position at either RBW or Mnet, sparking speculation that this may explain her early appearances in music videos for well-known artists prior to her debut.
There is much speculation that Jisoo’s early exposure in the entertainment industry can be attributed to her father’s extensive connections with producers, directors, and MCs.
