Jo Yoon-hee Supports Daughter’s Choice to Live with Father Lee Dong-gun

During a recent episode of TV Chosun’s program “All By Myself,” Jo Yoon-hee shared her unexpected reflections following her daughter’s psychological assessment.

While tidying up her daughter Roa’s bedroom, Jo came across several drawings, including one that left her astonished. She found a bold illustration of a naked soldier, causing her to question her first-grade daughter’s awareness of sexual themes. The drawing, which included a portrayal of “a soldier observing the princess’s private parts,” was even affixed to the wall.

In her state of concern, Jo Yoon-hee remarked, “I can’t help but wonder if she has seen something inappropriate,” and after her initial shock, she pondered, “What could lead her to create such an image?” This raised her worries about Roa’s wellbeing. The show’s panel expressed that “It’s typical for an eight-year-old to grasp certain aspects of sexuality,” highlighting that “many young girls are experiencing developmental milestones much earlier nowadays.”

Furthermore, Jo Yoon-hee expressed interest in Roa’s emotional health after noticing additional drawings featuring faceless figures and a grim reaper. She took the initiative to talk to her daughter about these artworks. When Roa was questioned about the naked soldier drawing, she shyly explained it was created “when I was younger,” and confirmed that she simply spurred this idea “as it came to her.”

To further assess Roa’s mental state, Jo arranged a visit to an art therapy facility, where drawing would serve as a natural medium for evaluation.

During Roa’s temporary absence, the therapists scrutinized the psychological connotations behind her artwork. They noted that the nude figure was not unusual for children in the first grade, as they begin to differentiate between male and female genders.

The expert observed signs of instability in Roa’s psychological condition, indicating a significant fear of not being accepted by peers, coupled with a feeling of pressure to excel. It was also highlighted that Jo Yoon-hee exhibited a level of psychological reliance on Roa, which could inadvertently place a heavy burden on the young child. This dependency was reflected in how Roa featured prominently in all of her creations.

One particularly striking moment was Jo Yoon-hee’s heartfelt admission: “My child is incredibly dear to me, and I aspire to be a nurturing and understanding mother. However, if she ever expresses a desire to live with her father after our time together, I will wholeheartedly support that decision,” she shared. She added, “Even though it would be painful for me, I want her to have what she truly desires.”
