Joe Rogan’s Reign as Spotify’s Top Podcast Ends as Former JRE Guest Takes the Crown

The Joe Rogan Experience was dethroned as the number one podcast in the US by Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host and previous guest on the JRE.

On July 25, The Tucker Carlson Show experienced a surge, claiming the top spot on Spotify’s podcast charts and pushing JRE down to second place.

The Tucker Carlson Show premiered on Spotify in December 2023, several months after the renowned Fox News anchor departed from the network to launch his own program on X, previously known as Twitter.

Similarly, some of the guests on Rogan’s show have been similar to those of Carlson. Notable examples include UFC fighter Colby Covington and comedian Tim Dillon, both of whom have appeared on previous episodes.

On July 25, Tucker released an episode featuring former US Presidential candidate Ben Carson. This episode proved to be the tipping point, as it led to his show becoming Spotify’s most popular podcast on the same day.

In April of 2024, Rogan invited Tucker Carlson onto his show for a lively three-hour conversation, which was featured on an episode.

Despite Joe Rogan’s podcast frequently slipping into second place in the rankings, this is certainly not the first time it has happened.

During his tenure on Spotify, several creators have had brief stints at the top spot.

In 2021, the cast of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ claimed the top spot on Spotify with the launch of ‘The Always Sunny Podcast.’ In this podcast, the group offered behind-the-scenes commentary on select episodes and discussed their creative process.

In 2023, Alix Earle, a popular TikTok star, was able to surpass Rogan when she debuted her Hot Mess podcast.

In 2024, JRE was dethroned from his top spot by the Kelce brothers and their New Heights podcast, following the Kansas City Chiefs’ journey to the Super Bowl.

For now, there is a new king of Spotify podcasts, although it remains uncertain how long Tucker will be able to maintain his position at the top, considering Rogan’s track record of making comebacks.
