TikTok influencer Joey Swoll has recently taken a stand against an Instagram model for utilizing a filter that mimics the physical features associated with Down syndrome. This has sparked significant debate and outrage online.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Down syndrome is a genetic disorder caused by the presence of an extra full or partial copy of chromosome 21. This additional genetic material leads to various developmental changes and distinct physical characteristics.
Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram are notorious for providing users with an array of filters that alter their appearance. Among these is one that replicates features commonly associated with Down syndrome. The use of such filters often incites backlash from users who find them offensive.
Joey Swoll Speaks Out Against Offensive Filter Usage
In a recent video, Joey Swoll expressed his disgust and frustration regarding this filter’s use.“This is disgusting and evil. What’s worse is that there are sick people that actually subscribe!” he stated, sharing his thoughts in the video’s caption.
The footage shows a woman walking on a train platform while using the controversial Down syndrome filter. Joey labeled her actions as another example of using an AI filter for the purpose of gaining subscriptions on platforms like OnlyFans. He voiced his disbelief that such a filter exists and stated, “This video reached over 70 million views and garnered more than 900, 000 likes. If you support this or subscribe to such content, you are part of the problem.”
Furthermore, he committed to addressing every account that engages in this behavior, asserting he would actively work to eliminate this troubling content from the internet.

This isn’t the first instance where Swoll has called out inappropriate use of such filters. On April 30, he highlighted another account utilizing the same filter, leading to that account’s removal from Instagram and the banning of their OnlyFans profile the following day.
@thejoeyswoll UPDATE* The account has been removed but there is still more work to do to stop this evil.#fyp
This controversy follows a previous incident where Swoll condemned a video that contributed to a 14-year-old boy being bullied at school, which resulted in the individual involved being banned from the gym. Joey also had the opportunity to meet and support the boy in person.
