John Turturro Explains Decision Not to Reprise Carmine Falcone in The Penguin Series

“I felt I had expressed everything I wanted to with this character,” Turturro stated, proceeding to clarify further. “The series features a lot of violence against women, and that does not align with my values.”

In the film, Falcone’s abusive behavior towards women is a critical component of the storyline, evidenced by his actions towards Selina Kyle’s mother and her friend. “Those events occur off-screen,” Turturro noted. “It’s more unsettling that way.”

While it’s accurate that the deaths of Kyle’s mother and her roommate transpire off-camera, Falcone does engage in a violent confrontation with Catwoman, during which he strangles her using a pool cue.

This explanation has sparked confusion among fans who voiced their reactions on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I respect his principles but didn’t he study Carmine’s character before taking on The Batman?” one user questioned in a post.
