JoJoLands chapter 19 was highly anticipated as it showcased the ongoing struggles of Jodio Joestar and his allies against the agents of Howler Co. and the Stand users Bobby Jean and Lulu. The chapter was unofficially released on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, and it not only progressed the battle but also provided crucial backstory.
In JoJoLands chapter 19, this backstory unfolded through a detailed narrative exploring Howler Co.’s origins, specifically the Howler family’s historical roots in Hawai’i. The chapter concluded with a gripping scene in the hospital where protagonist Jodio found himself trapped by Bobby Jean and Lulu as Usagi Aloha’oe’s condition deteriorated.
JoJoLands chapter 19 suggests Usagi Aloha’oe is beyond saving amid Jodio’s challenges
Opening with the title “Glory Days Part 1,” JoJoLands chapter 19 delves into the inception of Howler Co. The story begins with Acca Howler’s great-great-great-grandfather, initially named Latrato, an Italian sailor who, in 1843, washed ashore in Waipio Valley, Hawai’i after a maritime accident. There, he fell in love with a local woman who assisted him, leading to his acceptance by the Hawaiian royal family.
This relationship enabled him to establish a farm on the northern slope of Hualalai, marrying his savior. Nonetheless, the island’s water scarcity posed a challenge, as Hawaii’s volcanic soil prevents the formation of rivers—rainwater seeps deep underground, flowing toward the ocean instead.
Despite the unfavorable conditions for farming, Latrato possessed a unique understanding of the land’s geography. He decided to dig horizontal tunnels into the mountain slope rather than constructing vertical wells, believing he could tap into underground rainwater reservoirs. After months of labor, he successfully discovered several subterranean waterways, transforming the area into fertile land.
After the Hawaiian archipelago became part of the United States, the family adopted the last name Howler, given that “Latrato”translates to “howl”in English, and subsequently founded Howler Farms. The strategic water source they established was crucial for newly built luxury hotels and villas, earning them favorable political leverage. This ultimately led to the formation of Howler Co., specializing in water resource management and power generation.
In JoJoLands chapter 19, it’s further revealed that Howler Co. soon expanded into port rights, transportation, and munitions. Even though the north slope of Hualalai traditionally belonged to royal descendants and was state land, the importance of the water supply allowed Howler Co. to effectively control it, restricting access without explicit permission from the head of the Howler family, Acca Howler. This means that even in emergencies, such as deaths or disappearances on their land, no action could be taken without their consent.
Moreover, the chapter highlights Howler Co.’s ambition, with a staggering company valuation of $50 billion and ongoing efforts to extend their influence across the other Hawaiian islands.
Shifting focus back to the hospital, JoJoLands chapter 19 reveals that Paco Lovelantes survived his fall down the elevator shaft, albeit in critical condition. Meanwhile, Jodio recalls Paco’s last words and begins surveying the area for Bobby Jean and Lulu. He spots Bobby Jean first but becomes distracted as Lulu drops her cat bobblehead. The narrative then pivots to Usagi, Charmingman, and Dragona Joestar.
To Jodio’s dismay, he learns that Usagi has lost consciousness, with Dragona confirming that Smooth Operators are racing toward Usagi’s brain. It is clear that Usagi is teetering on the brink of death as Dragona explains the gravity of the situation. Back with Jodio and Lulu, Jodio realizes Lulu’s identity just as she suffers a sudden nosebleed. Bobby Jean takes this moment to fire two shots at Jodio, who counters with his stand, November Rain.
Meanwhile, as Dragona’s Smooth Operators engage Lulu’s Stand, Bags Groove, Bobby Jean ominously notes the impending “cleanup”they must undertake, firing at the crowd. Although he fails to hit Jodio, Bobby Jean insists Jodio has backed himself into a corner. Lulu further reveals their objective: seizing Howler Co.’s assets, expressing her urgency in collecting a necromancy-related item, a Lava Rock.
Lulu then starts ranting about everyone’s mortality while she snaps off the head of her cat figure. Meanwhile, Smooth Operators prepares to obliterate Lulu’s Stand as multiple copies of it suddenly overwhelm Dragona’s Stand. Charmingman realizes that pieces of Lulu’s doll are adhering to the MRI machine, attributing the situation to Lulu’s strategic attachment of her Stand to those doll fragments. He warns Dragona against contact with them, only to discover Jodio has also fallen prey to Bags Groove.
Cornered by Bobby Jean, who believes Jodio is hiding in the women’s restroom, Jodio chooses to sneak out of the men’s bathroom to mount a counterattack. However, Bobby Jean anticipated this and fires in that direction. Jodio activates November Rain to defend himself from the shots, quickly taking cover in a restroom stall. The chapter concludes on a cliffhanger as Jodio grapples with a pulmonary edema triggered by Bags Groove, while Bobby Jean begins his search for him.
JoJoLands chapter 19: Summary
JoJoLands chapter 19 appears to be building towards a climactic confrontation between Jodio and Bobby Jean, which will likely erupt in the confines of the restroom. The emphasis on Howler’s historical background suggests that this context may prove pivotal for both readers and Jodio’s team in the forthcoming arcs. However, with Usagi nearing death, it remains uncertain if they can emerge from this conflict unscathed.
