The best villain in the Batman universe shone in his solo film, and the show is not over: the villain will return in a second part of Joker. Release date, trailer, casting, we tell you everything you need to know about Joker 2.

Joker had a resounding release at the cinema: nominated 11 times for the Oscars and winning those for best actor and best music, the feature film very quickly built a nice reputation. The stand-alone reserved for the greatest villain in the Batman superhero universe had clearly won over the public for its raw and unhealthy atmosphere, and its build-up to a chaotic climax in which the character seemed to have finally find.

And as someone else would say, the “show must go on”! The Joker has not said his last word nor revealed his last cards to the spectators. What is the official title of this new Joker?

While the first film by Todd Phillips was simply titled Joker, the second opus will not be satisfied with a simple “2”: its name will indeed be Joker: Folie à deux.

Which already partly prepares us for the synopsis, suggesting the imminent arrival of a partner already well known to the general public: Harley Quinn.

You will have to be patient to witness the new performance of the mortally sad clown, because Joker: Folie à deux is expected on October 2, 2024.

Fortunately, spectators are not entirely idle during this interminable period. The studio, the actors and even director Todd Phillips have already offered us numerous images and information to keep us going.

We were able to see Arthur Fleck (the Joker/Joaquin Phoenix) wearing his most serious look while being shaved by an unknown person. If we rely on the end of the first part, we can assume that it will be a scene taking place in Arkham Asylum.

About four months later, the director posted a new update on Instagram with photos to inform the public that filming had finished.

We were then confirmed the presence of singer and actress Lady Gaga in the casting, to play the role of Harley Quinn. The film therefore entered post-production in April 2023 – which will not prevent it, if necessary, from returning a few scenes which could be deemed missing by the author.

At this point, the Joker: Folie à deux movie has yet to release a real trailer. However, a first teaser allows you to get back into the atmosphere of Todd Phillips’ film and to get a glimpse of the actors who will bring the rest of Arthur Fleck’s adventures to life.

Joker 2 Cast: Who’s Starring?

Joaquin Phoenix will reprise the iconic role of the Joker, to the delight of spectators. Lady Gaga will play her partner, Harley Quinn, in the famous toxic duo from DC. His presence is all the more interesting since it was announced that the film would have some musical comedy leanings.

Zazie Beetz will return in the role of fantasy girlfriend Sophie Dumond, even if her presence in the film has not yet been fully explained by the writers or the director.

We can also count on the presence of Brendan Gleeson (Paddington 2), Harry Lawtey (Industry) and Jacob Lofland (The Labyrinth). The latter would play another inmate of Arkham Asylum, but the roles of Gleeson and Lawtey remain unknown for the moment. Nonetheless, Deadline reported that they are expected to be “significant.”

Finally, there is also a chance to see young Bruce Wayne again, played by Dante Pereira-Olson. This will obviously depend on the place that the future Batman will occupy in the story, supposed to focus on the accomplishment of the Joker and his relationship with Harley Quinn.

Joker 2 plot: what will Folie à deux be about?

Little information about the plot has been revealed, but many leads have already been offered by the promotion.

The title and the presence of Lady Gaga suggest that the Joker will finally meet Harley Quinn, most certainly a doctor at Arkham Asylum. We should therefore explore their relationship, both romantic and particularly toxic, and witness the birth of the villain.

The fact that it is a musical also contrasts with the first opus and its cold and dark atmosphere. It is therefore easy to imagine that the moments of music will arrive in moments of psychotic delirium of the Prince of Crime, already shattered by life in Joker.
