Joker 2 Star’s Mysterious Role Revealed After Shock Trailer Appearance

Aside from its classification as a jukebox musical, there is limited information available about the upcoming sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. However, actor and filmmaker Steve Coogan has revealed some clues about the enigmatic character he will portray.

The actor made a brief appearance in the first official trailer (1:33) of the movie where he is seen questioning Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) about his sudden change in demeanor.

Coogan continued to reveal some details about his character, informing Deadline that he portrays a CNN-style reporter who conducts an intriguing interview with Joaquin Phoenix while he is in prison. However, he admitted to not having seen the final product and being just as clueless as everyone else about the rest of the film.

Despite not being expected to reveal any spoilers, Coogan was not entirely honest about the profession his character will have in the movie.

A highly popular fan theory regarding Joker 2 is that all scenes set in Gotham City are in fact a shared hallucination between Fleck and Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga).

In the same trailer, there is a scene where the couple can be seen dancing on the roof of the Hotel Arkham, possibly a distorted representation of the actual Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane.

Coogan may be perceived as a CNN-style reporter by Fleck and Quinn, but his actual position within the Asylum could be that of a doctor. The “interview” he conducts with the Joker could potentially be seen as a therapeutic session.

Similarly to Coogan, the remaining ensemble cast, including Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, Ken Leung, and Harry Lawtey, are currently in undisclosed roles and audiences will have to wait until the premiere of Joker 2 to uncover any information.

The highly anticipated movie Joker: Folie à Deux is set to release in theaters on October 4, 2024. While you wait, be sure to stay updated on other exciting DC films in the works, such as James Gunn’s Superman, The Batman 2, and The Brave and the Bold.
