Joker 2’s musical twist has everyone making the same joke

There is a new musical element in Joker 2 that has left fans uncertain about what to anticipate, and many of them are sharing the same joke on social media.

It was no surprise when it was announced that Joker 2 (also known as Joker: Folie à Deux) would have a musical aspect. After all, Lady Gaga was cast, and it’s not something that could be kept under wraps. However, recent reports have revealed that the upcoming DC film won’t be a typical musical. In fact, it will be a jukebox musical, a detail that has caused much excitement among fans.

Variety reports that Joker 2 will feature “at least 15 very well-known songs,”including the iconic number “That’s Entertainment”from the 1953 musical The Band Wagon. This recent revelation has shattered any previous assumptions that the film would solely consist of original tracks, completely surprising fans.

After learning about the news, fans have flocked to social media to share musical-themed jokes about the sequel, with many of them drawing inspiration from the same source: Glee.

“Several X users expressed their excitement for the movie, with one writing, “Finally, a movie for Gleeks.”Another user chimed in, saying, “They definitely captured the essence of Glee.”

“Let me get this straight, Joker is now part of a glee club?”said another. “Does this mean Joker 2 is just like an episode of Glee?”a fourth person tweeted.

Certainly, Glee, which aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015, gained widespread recognition for its jukebox musical format. Even now, almost ten years since the series ended, popular covers from the show continue to make their way into mainstream culture for inexplicable reasons.

Undoubtedly, the announcement that the Joker and Harley Quinn will be performing well-known songs has resonated with Glee enthusiasts, causing them to draw the connection.

“One comment remarked, ‘It’s crazy how they turned Joker into Glee.’”

“Another person expressed surprise at the news of Joker (Glee version) by writing, “We’re getting Joker (Glee version)???????”and sharing a link to a tweet from CamSavage00.”

Although Glee is not the only show that features cover songs, the concept of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga singing in Gotham and performing dramatic ballads has a distinct theatrical, over-the-top, and Glee-inspired vibe.

The release date for Joker: Folie à Deux is set for October 4, 2024.
