As a Hartnetthead, it’s an exciting time, but Josh Hartnett recently shared a dark experience that nearly caused him to depart from Hollywood, just before the release of M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap.
Following his impressive roles in Oppenheimer and Netflix’s Black Mirror, it is evident that Josh Hartnett has successfully made his comeback.
This summer, he will make a return to the silver screen in the horror film Trap, which is a creation of the brilliant mind of M. Night Shyamalan, known for his work on Signs and The Sixth Sense.
In an interview with The Guardian, Hartnett revealed that there was a period of time where he had doubts about returning to Hollywood, due to a string of disturbing stalking incidents.
“According to Hartnett, the level of attention he received at the time was bordering on unhealthy, which ultimately led to his withdrawal 20 years ago.”
“There were several disturbing incidents that occurred. Individuals, who had been stalking me, unexpectedly appeared at my residence. At one of my premieres, a man arrived with a gun, falsely claiming to be my father. As a result, he was eventually incarcerated.”
“There were many occurrences during that period, and it was a strange time. However, I was determined not to become fodder for the gossip mill.”
Despite being just 27 years old at the time, Harnett had already filmed movies such as Sin City and The Black Dahlia. However, he decided to take a 15-month hiatus from acting to reevaluate his career.
He added, “I simply didn’t want my work to consume my entire life.”
At that time, there was a belief that one should simply give up everything. Many people from that era suffered greatly as a result. I did not want that fate for myself.
Hartnett currently resides in Hampshire, UK, with his wife Tamsin Egerton (perhaps you recognize her from her role in the 2007 film St. Trinians) and their four children.
“So why does Trap seem like the perfect role at this point in my career?”Hartnett ponders. “Perhaps it’s also due to my age,”he reflects. “There are countless instances of actors who become even more captivating as they grow older. After all, one can’t remain an ingenue forever, can they?”
