Jujutsu Kaisen: A recurring detail in Akutami’s official arts for Gojo strongly suggests the Jujutsu Sorcerer’s return

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 236, which was published on September 25, 2023, depicted the supposed death of Gojo Satoru at the hands of Gege Akutami. However, the chapter’s rough sketches showed a blackened sorcerer, leading to speculation that the one-eye theory may hold some truth.

As the jujutsu sorcerers were overwhelmed with despair after their most powerful weapon against the King of Curses was destroyed, the chapter also marked the entrance of Hajime Kashimo onto the battlefield.

The initial versions of this chapter, which depicted the Honored One’s body being mutilated, revealed that one of his eyes was bruised, suggesting that the sorcerer may have offered up one of his eyes through a Binding Vow. Therefore, the possibility of the Honored One’s return still remains.

The Potential Return of Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen

The title of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 263 was Go South, and it opened with a peculiar situation in which Gojo Satoru encountered Geto Suguru once again. The Honored One voiced his dissatisfaction with his defeat at the hands of the King of Curses. He was later joined by Nanami and Haibara.

As time went by, the Honored One reflected on his desire to not be a mere dream. Little did he realize, he had already departed to the afterlife when Sukuna used a world-cutting dismantle to counter his Hollow Purple, ultimately splitting the cursed sorcerer’s body into two.

Despite the initial drafts for this chapter suggesting otherwise, they ultimately revealed his right eye to be blackened, further supporting the popular theory of Jujutsu Kaisen’s left-eye concept. This is consistent with the character’s first appearance in the series, where he initially exposes his left eye during a battle with the Honored One.

Following his death at the hands of Toji Fushigoro, the Honored One was resurrected. When he appeared before Toji, only his left eye was visible. This suggests that he made a binding vow to sacrifice his right eye in order to come back to life before being struck by Sukuna’s dismantling technique.

Just like in the battle against Toji Fushigoro, the Honored One shifted his attention to his reverse cursed technique instead of trying to defeat Toji. He was aware that he would not emerge victorious in a direct confrontation.

Additionally, a similar fate befell other sorcerers such as Nanami, who met his demise due to the loss of his left eye, and Maki, who lost her right eye upon awakening, suggesting her potential as an awakened. Therefore, there remains a possibility for the Honored One to make a return.

Final Thoughts

If, by some chance, the Honored One were to return, it would be the most significant plot twist of the series. In chapter 261, Okkotsu Yuta returned to the battlefield possessing the body of the Honored One through Kenjaku’s cursed technique. As demonstrated by the antagonist’s technique, a soul can only inhabit a body when it is not already occupied by another soul.

Despite the fact that Gojo’s death should be inevitable in any situation, his potential return would undoubtedly have a significant impact on the story. Moreover, if Gojo were to make a comeback, it could potentially open the door for Geto’s return as well. As such, it is impossible to predict what Gege Akutami may have in store for the Honored One’s potential return.
