The latest installment of Jujutsu Kaisen, chapter 256, featured a new flashback of Satoru Gojo. This time, the flashback delved into Black Flash, which has been frequently used by Ryomen Sukuna in recent chapters. It seems that the manga series aimed to provide an explanation on the mechanics of Black Flash.
In the previous chapter of the manga, Miguel and Larue joined the fight, followed by Yuji, Maki, and Choso. With Sukuna’s weakened state, Yuji was optimistic about the jujutsu sorcerers’ chances of winning. However, Sukuna suddenly struck Larue with his second Black Flash.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 delves into the connection between Gojo’s strength and the power of his Black Flash
The beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 featured a flashback in which Satoru Gojo was seen instructing his students about Black Flash. His students believed that their teacher had the ability to purposely utilize Black Flash, unlike other Jujutsu sorcerers. However, this was not actually the case.
Black Flash, a phenomenon in Jujutsu Kaisen, enhances a user’s physical attack by applying cursed energy within a fraction of a second. Gojo’s students believed he could intentionally use Black Flash due to his possession of Six Eyes.
Despite the impressive skill and technique required to successfully perform the Black Flash, even Gojo has not been able to intentionally execute it. Although he does enhance his physical attacks with Cursed Energy, this pales in comparison to the true power of the Black Flash.
Black Flash was heavily dependent on luck and the user’s concentration during its execution. This explains why Gojo had not utilized the technique frequently.
In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256, Satoru Gojo disclosed that Nanami Kento held the record for the most consecutive Black Flashes. This was due to Gojo being overpowered, which is why he did not hold the record himself.
As demonstrated in the series, a Jujutsu sorcerer can only access their technique while in the “zone.”Since Satoru Gojo rarely encountered opponents that required him to use a locking technique, he never had to heavily rely on any amplification techniques.
Therefore, based on Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256, it can be observed that despite Gojo’s ability to defeat his opponents quickly, he never entered the zone and did not experience as many Black Flash occurrences as Nanami.
Despite this, as followers may be aware, Satoru Gojo eventually employs Black Flash against Ryomen Sukuna in Shinjuku. In order to combat Sukuna’s formidable power, Gojo had to face him head on and enter the zone.
As a surprise to the King of Curses, he delivered a devastating blow and proceeded to use Black Flash three times in the fight against Mahoraga and Agito, shikigami summoned by Sukuna through the Ten Shadows Technique.
Despite Gojo’s impressive feat of performing four Black Flashes during the Shinjuku showdown, it was revealed in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 256 that Yuji Itadori would eventually surpass his record.
