In Chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen, a major plot twist is revealed that brings Gojo back to life. However, it deviates from fans’ expectations.
Satoru Gojo’s passing was an incredibly unexpected event in Jujutsu Kaisen. As the most powerful jujutsu sorcerer of his time, he possessed the extraordinary abilities of the Six Eyes and Limitless.
Despite his strength, the Shinjuku Showdown ultimately showed that there was someone even stronger than him. After a fierce battle, Sukuna emerged as the victor, defeating Gojo. This heartbreaking event led to Gojo’s death in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 236, solidifying his place as one of the most shocking and devastating deaths in the series.
Despite 25 chapters and countless fan speculations, Gojo’s reappearance in Chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen finally occurs. However, a major twist alters the significance of his comeback in the story.
It is revealed in Chapter 261 that Gojo remains deceased and has not been brought back to life. What Sukuna and the readers see before them is merely his body being used as a vessel by his student and fellow Special Grade sorcerer, Yuta Okkotsu.

The chapter exposes that Yuta utilized his Copy technique to gain access to Kenjaku’s cursed technique after killing him in Chapter 243. By having Rika consume the ancient sorcerer, Yuta was able to transfer his consciousness to Gojo’s revived body thanks to Kenjaku’s special ability. This was made possible after Shoko Ieiri mended Gojo’s amputated body.
This implies that even though the physical body belongs to Gojo, the soul currently inhabiting it is that of Yuta’s. As a result, Yuta now possesses all of Gojo’s techniques and memories. It has also been disclosed that Gojo was fully aware of this arrangement and gave his consent to it.
Despite the fact that Yuta possessing Gojo’s powers greatly increases the chances of the sorcerers defeating Sukuna, it also adds a tragic element to Gojo’s death. As the most powerful sorcerer of his time, he was always viewed as a mere weapon rather than a human being. This twist ensures that he will continue to be seen as such even after his passing.
The return of his powers with Kenjaku also draws a tragic comparison between Gojo and Geto. Both of these close friends had their bodies violated after death and were unable to find peace.
Despite Gojo’s return, even if only in physical form, a new showdown between Sukuna and Gojo is on the horizon, as hinted at in the final panel of the upcoming chapter.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261 is scheduled to be available on May 26, 2024 via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
