Chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen finally unveiled the highly anticipated comeback of Satoru Gojo. While it was Yuta who had taken control of Gojo’s body through Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique, it was also disclosed that Gojo had been consulted for this entire scheme.
During the course of the chapter, it becomes clear that Yuta had already devised a plan to use Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique to take over Gojo’s body in case he was defeated, long before the Gojo vs. Sukuna battle. While Yuta was the only one who had reservations about this plan, Gojo himself stated that he was not concerned about the state of his body if he were to die.
Despite some fans accepting that Gojo’s lack of concern in chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen may have been a result of his view of defeat as death, others have seized this moment to discuss the themes of his character and the inherent loneliness that comes with being the strongest as potential explanations for his lack of care.
Please be advised that this article contains spoilers for chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261: The Final Fight Against Sukuna Was Gojo’s Ultimate Goal
Despite being the strongest being in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, Gojo has always exuded overconfidence and borderline rudeness since his debut. This could partially be attributed to his difficulty in finding genuine joy and exhilaration.
Despite having moments of joy, the pre-awakened Gojo also displayed overconfidence and a slight lack of consideration for those around him. While on the Hidden Inventory arc, Gojo was joined by Suguru Geto. However, their paths diverged as Geto became determined to carry out his cleansing plan and Gojo reached a new level of strength through his awakening.
Despite being portrayed as a positive occurrence, Gojo’s awakening ultimately served to isolate him from the rest of the Jujutsu Kaisen world. His very existence has always been akin to a force of nature, and his birth disrupted the equilibrium between Jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits, inadvertently making the latter more powerful.
Gojo’s awakening propelled him to a whole new level of existence, rendering almost anything in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen powerless against him. The eventual confrontation between Gojo and Sukuna, which was hinted at from the beginning of the story, served as a resolution to Gojo’s theme of being the strongest and his struggle with loneliness.
Being recognized as the strongest individual, Gojo often felt alienated and experienced a sense of boredom or emptiness that could only be satisfied by engaging in an all-out battle with Sukuna. While the narrative presents Gojo’s fight against Sukuna as a selfless act, it is likely that it also fulfilled one of Gojo’s most selfish desires, even if it meant risking his own life.
It is likely that Gojo’s negligence towards his corpse in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 261 stemmed from his perpetual boredom and loneliness, a constant companion of being Satoru Gojo, the most powerful sorcerer of the modern era. This could be attributed to his belief that his battle against Sukuna was his final one and one of the few significant things in his life.
Final Thoughts
In chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen, the battle between Yuta, who is inhabiting Gojo’s body, and Sukuna has begun. With Yuta’s replicated Cursed Technique and Kenjaku’s Cursed Technique combining with Gojo’s Infinity, the situation has become highly volatile. The result of this confrontation remains unknown.
During the Shibuya Incident arc, Toji Fushiguro was reincarnated, marking the last time something remotely similar happened. This creates a sense of suspense and hope in the ongoing battle, as there is still a possibility for Gojo to make his return.
