Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 264: Gege’s Brilliant Planning for Sukuna’s Shinjuku Opponents

The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, chapter 264, unveiled Yuji’s domain expansion and sparked a surge of new theories. The intense battle between Sukuna and the sorcerers has been ongoing for almost 30 chapters and is now nearing its end. This epic fight has involved nearly every character in the series, with each taking their turn in facing off against Sukuna.

Over time, it became a popular joke among fans that Gege would eventually run out of characters to challenge Sukuna and would have to bring in characters from other universes or revive old ones. Recently, some fans have speculated that the entire Sukuna battle may have been a buildup to his eventual “purification”by Yuji as part of a ritual.

Note: The following article contains mild spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen series and some potentially disturbing content.

Jujutsu Kaisen Theory: Sukuna’s Entire Fight Was a Cleansing Ritual

After the prolonged fight, many fans interpreted it as a way for Gege to establish Sukuna’s overwhelming power and solidify his identity as “the strongest”.

Recently, fans have pointed out Sukuna’s fight order and compared it to the six paths of rebirth, as he seemingly progresses through the six envoys before ultimately being exorcised and purified by Yuji.

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264, the hand signs for Yuji’s domain expansion were unveiled, making it a crucial chapter in the series, alongside Gojo’s death. While some fans attempted to decipher the potential abilities of Yuji’s domain, others pointed out the resemblances between his hand signs and the Ksitigarbha mudra.

It was also observed by numerous fans that Yuji’s unwavering determination to rescue others, his connection to deceased fetuses, and his pure and resolute demeanor bear a striking resemblance to the legend of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.

Based on the fact that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva is known as the protector of children and a divine figure for stillborns, miscarried fetuses, and children who have passed away, fans have come to the conclusion that Yuji’s current character development is influenced by the journey of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.

During Bodhisattva’s journey towards enlightenment, Ksitigarbha’s final task was to address six envoys and save sinners from six different realms: Naraka (Hell), Preta (hungry ghost), animal, human, asura, and deva.

The envoys that were dispatched included Yama, the Treasure Holding Lad, the Great Strength Envoy, the Great Compassionate Goddess, the Precious Treasure Goddess, and the Summoning Heaven Envoy. It is possible that Sukuna’s adversaries during this battle may represent or allude to these envoys.

It is possible that Satoru Gojo, as both an enlightened individual and the holder of the title “strongest,”draws inspiration from Yama. Meanwhile, Higuruma, known as the Treasure Holding Lad, is believed to have taken one of Sukuna’s weapons, Kamutoke.

It is possible that Maki represents the Great Strength Envoy, as her abilities revolve solely around her physical strength. On the other hand, Yuta could potentially be associated with the Precious Treasure Goddess, as his powers and domain are centered around concepts of love.

The lore states that the Great Compassionate Goddess was sent to rescue the human realm, thus establishing Kusakabe as the designated envoy.

Despite its brevity, Kusakabe’s battle against Sukuna served to emphasize the fact that even a “regular human”like Kusakabe could hold their own against a powerful demon. Additionally, the Summoning Heaven Envoy known as Angel draws inspiration from biblical angels and possesses the ability to summon pillars of light from the heavens.

Essentially, the battle between Sukuna and the Sorcerers can be seen as a ritual in which Sukuna is attempting to defeat Yuji’s envoys and claim the title of ultimate evil. However, this evil will ultimately be purged by Yuji, who will then achieve enlightenment.

Jujutsu Kaisen has long drawn inspiration from Buddhism, with Gojo’s enlightenment serving as a prominent example.

Final Thoughts

There is still uncertainty surrounding the ultimate destiny of Sukuna, but it is highly likely that the Sukuna battle has concluded. The remaining clashes will take place exclusively within either Yuji’s domain or the conceptual space shared by Yuji and Sukuna.
