In its latest chapter, Jujutsu Kaisen (chapter 265) has revealed many intricate details. This highly anticipated chapter had generated a lot of excitement among fans. However, the outcome was not what they had anticipated, as it unveiled a shocking death instead.
The chapter contains reveals that not only take readers on a sudden journey down memory lane (possibly causing them to become emotional) but also pose challenging questions. For instance, the current whereabouts of our old friend, Higurama.
1. What Happened to Higuruma?
After being gravely wounded by Sukuna, Hiromi Higurama was brought to Shoko Ieiri for medical treatment by Ui Ui. Since then, he has not appeared in the series, leading to speculation that he may be either recovering or may have succumbed to his injuries.
The peaceful conversation between Yuji and Sukuna is quite thought-provoking and prompts several inquiries. One such question is – what became of Hiromi Higuruma? The last known sighting of Higuruma was during a perilous encounter after a failed attempt to attack Sukuna. Higuruma was met with a strong retaliation from the demon king.
Despite Sukuna’s brutal attack, he was left with severe injuries as depicted in the previous chapters. In that moment, Ui Ui appeared like a guardian angel and intervened to prevent Sukuna from causing further harm to the sorcerers. Acting quickly, he brought them to Shoko Ieri for medical treatment.
Despite the urgent and uncertain nature of their situation, the author intentionally left out any mention of the fate of the characters, including Higuruma. This led amateur internet sleuths to speculate that Higuruma may have succumbed to their injuries.
Sukuna’s displayed death portraits do not feature Higurama at all. Given that the other characters in the portraits are all deceased, it raises the question of whether Higurama may still be alive. These images portray important figures such as Gojo, Choso, Nobara, Nanami, Junpei, and Naobito, all of whom played a significant role in Yuji’s journey. It is plausible that Higurama’s absence from the portraits could be due to the fact that he did not have as much impact on Yuji as the others.
Chapter 265: What Happens
Despite the readers’ anticipation for a showdown between Yuji Itadori, the protagonist, and the all-powerful demon king, Ryomen Sukuna, the chapter did not deliver this much-awaited clash. However, it did reveal the ‘savior’ aspect of Yuji to everyone.
In this chapter, Yuji meets with Sukuna, who has been his long-time companion and (sort of) mentor. Yuji approaches Sukuna for a conversation, which surprisingly lacks any tension despite their usual battle-hungry natures. The interaction between the two is civil and peaceful.
During their conversation, Sukuna reveals a glimpse of his past to Yuji. Despite Yuji’s attempts to make amends with Sukuna, we are introduced to a group of characters who have passed away in this chapter. However, one notable absence is Hiromi Higurama, raising the question of whether he is still alive.
3. Possible Explanations
Hiromi Higuruma’s absence from the “death portraits”of Sukuna gives rise to three possible explanations:
- It has been widely believed by readers and dedicated anime fans that Higuruma has passed away, as there was no logical reason for the character to suddenly disappear from the story. However, it is possible that the impact of Higuruma’s death would have been insignificant, which could explain why it was not addressed in the series.
- It is possible that despite sustaining serious injuries, Higuruma is still alive. After Ieri took him for treatment, he may have managed to survive. However, the vicious attack from Sukuna may have greatly affected him. Although he is not recorded in the “death portraits”(which could be due to Sukuna causing his death), it is possible that Higuruma is alive and may reappear in the future.
- Despite playing a memorable role in the Sukuna attack arc, Higurama was eventually forgotten in the series. He was not considered indispensable and was taken away for treatment. It is possible that the author felt he had fulfilled his purpose and thus, he was dropped from the panels. This resulted in his disappearance, regardless of his current status of being alive or dead.
