Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Criticized for Having the ‘Worst Ending in Anime History’

Jujutsu Kaisen ultimately wraps up its narrative in Chapter 271; however, the reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly negative. Many feel that creator Gege Akutami delivered a less-than-ideal conclusion to the widely acclaimed series.

As one of the standout new-generation shonen manga, Jujutsu Kaisen has captivated audiences, but the momentum seemed to falter towards the end of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. The epilogue only deepened the confusion and doubts, resulting in an ending that frustrated a significant portion of the fanbase.

Throughout Chapter 271, the characters are left without closure, prompting criticism of the Jujutsu Kaisen ending for being unsatisfactory and anti-climactic. Fans are particularly upset over the numerous unresolved storylines that Akutami left hanging.

The majority of the final chapter focuses on the first-year trio as they embark on a new mission. Following this is a poignant flashback featuring Yuji and Gojo, where the late sorcerer reveals an emotional confession. The chapter’s conclusion shifts to Sukuna conversing with Mahito in a void.

While the dialogue among the villains offers an intriguing perspective on Sukuna’s character, it raises even more unanswered questions. The finale concludes with a panel showcasing Sukuna’s last finger sealed within a wooden booth.

In addition to several intriguing plot points, such as Kenjaku’s identity as Yuji’s mother and the implications for the jujutsu world, Akutami failed to provide the necessary exploration and resolution, making the narrative feel disjointed and diminishing its overall impact.

Given the immense success of Jujutsu Kaisen (which continues to enjoy significant sales), fans had high expectations for the culmination of the series. However, with many of these hopes dashed, they have expressed their disappointment towards both the creator and the finale.

“Not to be dramatic or anything but this ending was actually the worst possible outcome,” posted one user on X.

“Jujutsu Kaisen ending is one of the worst I’ve ever read in the history of manga. This ending is terrible. I hope Gege never writes again. This is worse than the Attack on Titan ending,” commented another user, referencing the controversial conclusion of **Attack on Titan**.

“Jujutsu Kaisen had arguably the worst ending of all time,” remarked a third fan, with a fourth adding, “Yaaaa the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen may be the worst ending of a manga in recent years.”

Another disappointed fan tweeted: “I refuse to believe Jujutsu Kaisen is ending like this. It’s genuinely the worst ending I’ve seen.”

The underwhelming finale of Jujutsu Kaisen has led many to speculate about the possibility of a continuation of the story. However, no official announcements have been made regarding this potential sequel.
