Jujutsu Kaisen Ending Explained: Yuta’s Fate Revealed

Yuta found himself in quite a predicament during his fight against Sukuna, leading to questions about what happens to him at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Yuta Okkotsu is one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen and a fan favorite. He served as the protagonist in the prequel and continues to play a crucial role in the ongoing manga, especially in the Culling Game Arc and the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.

In the final arc, Yuta manages to kill Kenjaku and plays a significant role in defeating Sukuna. He battles the ancient sorcerer multiple times but faces defeat. As a last resort, he transfers his brain into Gojo’s corpse using Kenjaku’s cursed technique.

This drastic action grants him access to the Six Eyes and Limitless, although it comes at the cost of his humanity, sealing a grim future for himself. However, with Sukuna finally gone, the narrative shifts, revealing his fate in the epilogue. (Warning: Spoiler alert!)

What happens to Yuta at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen?

In Chapter 269, Yuta is found back in his own body, albeit with a scar on his forehead. He explains that while he was inhabiting Gojo’s form, Shoko healed his body, and Rika sustained it with the Reverse Cursed Technique.

Despite the brain transfer, Yuta maintains his connection to Rika, likely because he still wears her ring. Although not explicitly stated, this suggests that Rika remains linked to him even if Yuta’s body had been lifeless.

With his form restored, he moves his consciousness from Gojo’s body back to his own. However, due to the nature of Kenjaku’s cursed technique, he now bears the same scar as him. Yuta’s return to his original body has also liberated Gojo’s corpse.

The deaths of Gojo and Sukuna, two of the strongest sorcerers in existence, have impacted the jujutsu world significantly. Nevertheless, Yuta, Maki, and the first-year students are positioned to fill this void.

Prior to the Shinjuku Showdown, Yuta was recognized as one of the strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, classified as a Special Grade alongside Gojo, Geto, and Yuki. He is now the only survivor from that group.

Already, his power was regarded as second only to Gojo’s. In Gojo’s absence, Yuta is theoretically the strongest modern-era sorcerer. However, since Yuji’s full capabilities remain uncertain (with his Domain Expansion still a mystery), it’s premature to crown Yuta as the ‘strongest’ just yet.

That said, he unquestionably ranks among the most powerful characters in the series, and there is potential for him to grow even stronger in the future.
