Megan thee Stallion’s latest re-recorded song is causing a divide among the anime community due to its abundance of Jujutsu Kaisen references.
Megan thee Stallion’s love for anime has never been a secret. She is known to be one of the most vocal celebrities about her passion for Japanese animated media. She has even dressed up as various anime characters in the past, such as Satoru Gojo.
Ahead of the release of her studio album ‘Megan’, she has unveiled her re-recorded sample track titled ‘Otaku Hot Girl’. The song contains numerous references to the anime series Jujutsu Kaisen, including the names of popular characters such as Gojo, Yuji, and Sukuna.
In this track, the artist references popular characters from Jujutsu Kaisen by saying “Ayy, can’t touch me like Gojo”, “Fightin’ demons in my head like I’m Itadori”, and “Bow down when I pop out like Sukuna.”Additionally, she incorporates a sample from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s original soundtrack as an ad in her song.
Many anime enthusiasts are ecstatic about this latest track, particularly because it highlights the increasing worldwide appeal of anime. In fact, a fan expressed their enthusiasm on X/Twitter by stating, “I just discovered that she also sampled from JJK, she’s truly authentic for doing that.”
Another person chimed in, saying “She’s definitely a fan of this,”and a third person asked, “So, how can we convince Gege to give this song a listen?”Another individual commented, “I’ll always support Gojo and Megan.”
However, despite the Jujutsu Kaisen references being appreciated, there are those who are not impressed by the track and are criticizing it for its quality of music and lyrics.
One user on Reddit questioned, “I occasionally listen to Megan, but her lyrics… what made her believe they were good?”Another added, “This could be impressive if Megan Thee Stallion produced music that was actually enjoyable to listen to.”
A user of X expressed strong criticism towards the artist, stating, “She lacks any music coherency, entertainment value, and talent. It’s quite disappointing,”accompanied by another user who simply commented, “It’s cringe-worthy, I must admit.”
