In the latest edition of Weekly Shonen Jump, Jujutsu Kaisen revealed their highly anticipated “unbelievable project.”However, many fans were disappointed with the announcement.
As the Jujutsu Kaisen finale drew near, fans eagerly awaited news of a potential sequel manga after the series hinted at an upcoming “unbelievable project”. With various speculations, one idea that stood out was a prequel set in the Heian-era, centered around Sukuna.
Despite high hopes, none of the speculated announcements have come to fruition. Rather, the manga has unveiled a series of lackluster updates. Rather than a new installment or spin-off, Jujutsu Kaisen has opted to release the first 245 chapters of the manga for free on the Shonen Jump+ app and Zebrack.
In addition, a countdown video will be released leading up to the conclusion of the manga. Furthermore, special wallpaper gifts will be available on social media platforms and the cover for Volume 27 will be revealed.

Needless to say, fans are expressing their disappointment and not holding back. As one X user commented on the news, “I will never trust their ‘unbelievable projects’ again.”
“According to another individual, it seems that we can no longer rely on the WSJ’s use of terms like ‘big project’, ‘unbelievable project’, ‘super secret project’, etc…”
A third person expressed their disappointment on Twitter, stating that anytime they hear the term “Special Project”associated with an anime title, they should not get their hopes up. They referenced previous instances with Tokyo Ghoul, Noragami, and now with Jujutsu Kaisen.
Despite previous disappointments with “special project”announcements, fans were once again let down with the teasing of a future project for My Hero Academia after its ending. Many were anticipating a major announcement, but it turned out to be a global popularity poll.
Despite the disappointment for Jujutsu Kaisen fans, there is still something to look forward to. Although there are no plans for a spin-off or sequel, the manga’s finale will be released on September 30, 2024.
