Jujutsu Kaisen fans won’t forgive Gege Akutami for Nobara’s fate

Despite the dissatisfaction of Jujutsu Kaisen fans, Gege Akutami’s handling of Nobara’s death and refusal to confirm her fate has caused frustration.

Jujutsu Kaisen has gained a reputation for its harsh treatment of characters. In contrast to most shonen anime, the show does not hesitate to eliminate its main characters. Among the numerous deaths in Jujutsu Kaisen, one that many fans consider to have been handled poorly is that of Nobara.

Despite being a prominent character, Nobara Kugisaki appeared to have been killed during the Shibuya Incident Arc. In Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, she faced a brutal fate in her battle against Mahito. Her supposed demise deeply affects her fellow classmates, especially Yuji.

Despite being a deceased character in Jujutsu Kaisen, Nobara’s death was never officially confirmed. Although she was seen as dead during the Shibuya Incident Arc, her passing was never explicitly stated. This caused confusion among fans and left her ultimate fate uncertain.

Following her battle with Mahito, the topic of her potential demise was first brought up in a conversation between Yuji and Megumi. This discussion raised more uncertainties than it provided clarity. In Chapter 144, Yuji inquired about Nobara’s whereabouts to Megumi. Despite Megumi’s silence, Yuji appeared to comprehend the situation.

Despite Yuji’s understanding, readers were still left confused. This moment only intensified fans’ doubts about Nobara’s supposed death. It seemed pointless to leave her fate unconfirmed if she had truly passed away. However, Jujutsu Kaisen has never been known for bringing characters back from the dead.

As the contemplation of Nobara’s fate in Jujutsu Kaisen continued, the story continued to unfold. With Sukuna now in his original body and engaged in a battle with Yuji, who he had killed Gojo and taken over Megumi’s body, fans believe that confirming Nobara’s fate at this point would not contribute anything significant to the plot.

During the latter half of the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, the adversaries prove to be too formidable for any of the sorcerers to defeat. The sole remaining hope rests on Yuji, the protagonist who has unlocked numerous abilities, including his cursed technique.

If Nobara’s death were to be confirmed at this point in the story, it would have no impact on the plot. It has been too long since she was believed to have died, and any emotional reactions to her death have already subsided. Furthermore, revealing her to be dead now would render the prolonged uncertainty of her fate meaningless.

If Nobara were to return at this moment, it would not significantly impact the plot. Her resurrection would hold little significance as she lacks the strength to battle or aid in Sukuna’s defeat. Additionally, it would prompt questions about her whereabouts during this crucial time and her absence from her friends’ struggles.

Gege Akutami is currently facing a dilemma. He has delayed revealing Nobara’s fate in Jujutsu Kaisen for too long, missing the ideal opportunity for such a reveal. As a result, whatever decision he makes regarding Nobara, it is likely that fans will either be disappointed or not affected by it.

“According to a user on Reddit, while no one is arguing that her death was well-written, it is believed that she is either permanently dead or will eventually return. However, since the story is already nearing its conclusion, some feel that her fate is ultimately insignificant.”

Another fan stated, “I strongly believe that the reason behind the widespread anticipation of her comeback is due to the poor handling of her death.”

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Nobara’s fate, Jujutsu Kaisen still has the opportunity to reveal it, regardless of its impact. However, it may take a considerable amount of time.
