Jujutsu Kaisen: Gege Akutami makes Mahoraga a plot device for Megumi to shine

Mahoraga is widely regarded as the most powerful shikigami in Jujutsu Kaisen. He can only be summoned by a user of the Ten Shadows cursed technique, a role that is fulfilled by Fushigoro Megumi in the series.

During the Shibuya arc, Megumi summoned him after he was unable to fight Shigemo due to his injury. Mahoraga’s unique trait was that no sorcerer had ever been able to control it to their liking. As expected, Megumi was also unable to tame it and was thrown back as soon as Mahoraga appeared.

Despite having such a powerful trump card at his disposal, this may have been the reason why Sukuna was insistent on possessing Megumi’s body as his next vessel. Additionally, Mahoraga could have also served as a crucial element in Megumi’s development, allowing him to showcase his strength and cement his position as one of the most formidable characters in the series.

Megumi Fushigoro, the son of Toji Fushigoro, is a main character in Jujutsu Kaisen. He was first seen in the series’ premiere, tasked with retrieving one of Sukuna’s fingers, a special-grade cursed item. It was during this mission that he encountered Itadori, the protagonist of the series.

Megumi’s possession of the Ten Shadow Technique, inherited from the Zennin clan (as Toji was also a member), allows him to summon 10 different types of shinigami to assist in battles. Throughout the series, Megumi has demonstrated proficiency with all 10 shikigami and has shown the ability to utilize them in various ways.

The Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga is one of the shinigami of the Ten Shadow technique. This shikigami is known for its wild and uncontrollable tendencies, as no wielder of the Ten Shadow Technique in history has been able to control it.

In the Shibuya arc, Megumi summoned this shikigami to battle against Haruta Shigemo when she was depleted of her powers. However, as soon as the shinigami arrived, Mahoraga was summoned and sent flying.

The shikigami’s abilities center around its capacity to adjust to any cursed technique upon being struck by it, allowing it to successfully counter Gojo Satoru’s Infinity during the ultimate showdown.

Some followers of the series contend that it is highly unexpected for Megumi to possess Mahoraga, as all of the Ten Shadows that make up his cursed technique resemble animals, while Mahoraga is a massive humanoid creature.

In addition, it seems unlikely for Mahoraga to be included in the Ten Shadows, as there is a significant power gap between him and the other shadows. This has led fans to speculate that Gege only granted Megumi this power boost in order for him to better fit into the protagonist trio of Jujutsu Kaisen (alongside Itadori Yuji and Kugisaki Nobara), establishing him as one of the most formidable characters in the series.

As a fan opinion article, it’s important to recognize that opinions will differ among fans. One particular topic that has sparked debate is the introduction of Mahoraga to Megumi’s shikigami arsenal. Compared to the other shikigami like Nue and Toad that Megumi combines in battle, Mahoraga stands out as a strong, uncontrollable entity. Its unique abilities make it a formidable addition to Megumi’s team.

Though his involvement in the battle of the strongest was significant, he was not simply a plot device in the series. Sukuna’s victory against Gojo was only possible due to Mahoraga’s ability to adapt, solidifying his role in the plotline. Therefore, this article should be taken with a grain of salt and viewed for entertainment purposes only.

Despite the hype surrounding Jujutsu Kaisen’s Mahoraga, the plot ultimately fails to live up to expectations.
