Due to Sukuna’s invincibility against direct assaults, the Honored One could have implemented a domain expansion on him that would only activate when he is severely weakened or injured. This aligns perfectly with his current condition, as he is struggling to utilize his cursed technique.
If this is indeed true, it would serve as a clear allusion to the downfall of Aizen in the Bleach series.
