Jujutsu Kaisen: How Megumi Returns in Chapter 268

After a long absence, Megumi Fushiguro makes his long-awaited return in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268, but the question remains – how does this come about?

Megumi, the deuteragonist of Jujutsu Kaisen, is the initial sorcerer encountered by Yuji (and the audience). It is due to Megumi’s help that Yuji comes across Sukuna’s cursed finger and ultimately becomes the host for the powerful King of Curses.

Throughout the narrative, Megumi holds a significant presence. He has engaged in battles with formidable adversaries and shown the potential to rival Gojo with his highly sought-after Ten Shadows Technique. Additionally, he has captured the interest of Sukuna for a mysterious purpose.

The explanation is uncovered during the Culling Game Arc, as Sukuna possesses Megumi and remains in control until his ultimate release during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, which ultimately leads to Sukuna’s demise. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!)

Megumi’s Return in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268

In Chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi manages to escape from Sukuna’s control as Yuji’s domain collapses and his soul punch weakens the barrier separating Megumi from Sukuna’s soul.

It took a long time for Megumi to break free from Sukuna’s grasp. Although the main objective of the Shinjuku Showdown is to defeat Sukuna, individuals such as Yuji and Yuta put forth their best efforts to rescue Megumi, despite facing unfavorable odds.

During Chapter 251, when Hana activates Jacob’s Ladder and Yuji unleashes his soul punch on Sukuna simultaneously, the possibility of their success becomes tangible. However, even after witnessing the sacrifices made by his friends, Megumi remains despondent and refuses any assistance, urging Yuji to abandon their cause.

Despite Yuji’s ongoing struggles, it is in Chapter 266 that his efforts finally bear fruit as the main character confesses that he cannot burden Megumi with his pain, yet he still feels a sense of loneliness without him. Yuji’s words rekindle Megumi’s determination to live and he retaliates in Chapter 268.

When Nobara utilizes her Resonance technique on Sukuna’s final finger, Yuji is able to deliver the final blow that shatters his domain and removes the curse from Megumi’s body. This ultimately results in the liberation of the young sorcerer.

How long was Megumi captured by Sukuna?

It took 56 chapters for Sukuna to capture Megumi, an event that unfolded over a period of one and a half years.

Ever since the start of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna has displayed a peculiar interest in Megumi. He has come to the aid of the contemporary sorcerer on multiple occasions and is visibly thrilled whenever Megumi showcases his exceptional abilities, such as opening an unfinished domain expansion.

During the Culling Game Arc, the motivation for the curse’s curiosity is revealed. In Chapter 212, when Megumi expresses deep distress upon witnessing Yorozu take control of Tsumiki’s body, Sukuna seizes the opportunity to exploit his vulnerable mental state and impose a Binding Vow on Yuji.

Sukuna takes control of Yuji’s body and forcefully feeds one of his fingers to Megumi, effectively transferring himself to the young man’s body. Despite initially resisting, Megumi is no match for Sukuna’s strength. The curse, determined to solidify its control, destroys Megumi’s will to live by first killing Yorozu (and consequently, Tsumiki) and then performing the Bath ritual.

What to Expect Next?

Since Megumi has been freed and Sukuna is no longer a threat, his future appears much more promising. Currently, he is recovering from his injuries, both physical and mental, and enjoying the company of his friends.

Megumi is predicted to continue his path as a jujutsu sorcerer in the future. Despite any obstacles, he possesses great potential. It is possible that he will eventually achieve mastery over his domain expansion and acquire the ability to utilize Black Flash.

Despite this, it is undeniable that Megumi will never be able to reach the level of Gojo again. The loss of Mahoraga and other powerful Shikigami has made it impossible for him to reach his full potential. However, with Sukuna’s absence, perhaps he will no longer need to.
