Jujutsu Kaisen: How Miwa Rescued Maki from Sukuna’s Domain – Explained

After the most recent installment of Gege Akutami’s original manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen, fans are eagerly anticipating the direction of the ongoing battle against Sukuna. Yuji Itadori’s relentless attacks seemed to have the upper hand, but Sukuna’s use of powerful sorcery has shifted the tides of the fight.

Sadly, due to Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga publication magazine being on hiatus this week, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen will have to wait to see what happens next in the story. This break also means that spoilers for chapter 259 are unlikely to be leaked before its official release.

Meanwhile, avid followers of Jujutsu Kaisen are diligently analyzing the previous installment, searching for any hints about future events or weaknesses in Sukuna’s strategy. As a result, several fans have now noticed a subtle detail in chapter 258 that eluded them during their initial read-through, shedding light on how Maki Zen’in managed to survive Sukuna’s most recent assault.

Miwa the Useless Proves Her Worth Yet Again by Shielding Maki in Jujutsu Kaisen’s Latest Official Release

Despite not being as apparent in the unofficial raw scans, the official release of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 revealed that Miwa, also known as “the Useless,”played a crucial role in saving Maki’s life. As Sukuna unleashed his Malevolent Shrine Domain Expansion on the battlefield, Miwa bravely shielded Maki, who was the only one without Cursed Energy.

To clarify, Maki lacked the ability to execute Anti-Barrier Techniques that could reduce or completely negate the harm she would have sustained. This is the reason why Miwa rushed to Maki’s aid, as she had been taught the Simple Domain by Atsuya Kusakabe in his New Shadow Style. This type of Simple Domain is similar to the one Yuji demonstrated, which successfully blocked Sukuna’s attacks for a certain duration.

The Simple Domain is a defensive technique that creates a small domain with a barrier around the user. This effectively shields the user from the effects of a Domain Expansion, particularly the “sure-hit”element commonly incorporated in most domains. While there are multiple versions of the Simple Domain featured in the series, their main purpose remains the same – to protect the user and automatically counter any close-range attacks.

Similarly, the minimal injuries inflicted on Yuji by Sukuna’s slashes in chapter 258 were still severe enough to completely sever his left leg at the ankle. Despite being able to regenerate his leg using Reverse Cursed Technique right away, Maki would not have the ability to do so as she lacks any Cursed Energy. While Shoko Ieiri could have potentially healed Maki, this would have required Ui Ui to physically remove her from the battlefield, which would have been challenging given the circumstances.

Therefore, Miwa was able to both protect Maki from any potential harm caused by Sukuna’s Domain Expansion (at least, according to current fan knowledge) and decrease the danger to Ui Ui at the same time. While the latter may appear insignificant, Ui Ui and Shoko play crucial roles in the battle against Sukuna, even if they are not directly involved in the fighting. Hence, despite being labeled as “Useless,”Miwa’s actions in chapter 258 hold immense significance and should not be underestimated.
