The manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen, is scheduled to conclude in September 2024. The cast has been engaged in a fierce battle against Sukuna for over a year, with the King of Curses facing numerous challenges. With the impending end of the series, it is highly likely that Sukuna will meet his defeat.
The Shinjuku Showdown Arc marks the conclusion of the manga, showcasing various tactics and plans that were put in motion in case Gojo were to be defeated. While his loss may come as a surprise to fans, both the sorcerers and Gojo had already made preparations in case the worst-case scenario were to occur.
It required immense effort and numerous sacrifices to defeat the King of Curses. However, what led to Sukuna’s demise? Caution: Spoilers ahead!
Sukuna’s Death in Chapter 268 of Jujutsu Kaisen
After Megumi frees his body, Yuji is able to defeat and kill Sukuna.
Despite using Megumi’s body as a vessel, Sukuna was only able to survive for this long. It was crucial for the sorcerers to free Megumi from Sukuna’s control as their top priority. However, this task proved to be much more difficult than anticipated as Megumi was consumed by despair following Tsumiki’s death.
Despite Sukuna’s efforts to prevent Megumi from returning with the Bath Ritual, the sorcerers put up a fierce fight and cleared the way for Yuji’s attacks. Yuji’s powerful soul punches and Black Flashes successfully weakened the barrier separating Sukuna’s soul from Megumi’s.
In Chapter 266, Megumi confronts Sukuna and suggests that the end of the villain may be approaching. In the following chapter 267, Nobara reappears and successfully utilizes Resonance on Sukuna’s last remaining finger. As a result, Sukuna experiences visible discomfort and begins to convulse.
Following that, in Chapter 268, Yuji’s realm crumbles, causing Megumi to quickly extract himself and leaving Sukuna as nothing but a heap of flesh. Realizing his defeat, the antagonist accepts his fate. Yuji then lifts him up and offers to once again serve as his vessel. Moved with compassion, Yuji wishes to provide Sukuna with a new opportunity.
Despite Sukuna’s intense hatred for Yuji, he ultimately chooses death. He dissipates into the air like a curse, meeting the same fate as the defeated and returned to nothingness as the powerful King of Curses.
