The new Blu-ray version of the fight between Sukuna and Makora in the anime Jujutsu Kaisen has once again impressed fans. Here’s how you can watch it.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is undoubtedly one of the most popular anime of 2023, and that’s why the anime adaptation of Gege Akutami’s manga won several awards at the latest Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
A second season which, although it generally brought everyone in agreement, was not perfect. This is why some were impatiently waiting to be able to discover the Blu-ray version of the Shibuya Drama arc, which met fans’ expectations by offering an improved version of what is probably one of the best clashes of the season.
The Blu-ray version thus revisited episode 17 of season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen, which is certainly the most controversial episode of the last season. In particular, we can discover a new version of the fight between Ryomen Sukuna and Makora.
How to watch the Blu-ray version of the fight between Sukuna and Makora
To discover the revisited version of the fight between the famous King of Scourges and the formidable Unholy Celestial General, you will need to get your hands on volume 4 of the Blu-ray version of Shibuya Drama. A volume that is only available in Japan for the moment, given that it was just released this week in the country of the Rising Sun.
But for the most impatient among you who would still like to discover the new features brought with the release on physical media, you can now get an overview thanks to a comparative video published on the EzQuart YouTube channel.
This new version not only allows you to discover a corrected version of the fight, but it also and above all offers an extended version of the confrontation between the two characters through additional scenes.
Additionally, the official Jujutsu Kaisen website announced earlier this month that Blu-ray volumes 4 and 5 will be given a special screening in Japan for one week starting March 29. The screening will include episodes 17, 18, 19 and 20 of the second season. A screening which will only take place in Japanese cinemas. We currently have no information regarding an international release date.
Why did Sukuna fight Makora in Jujutsu Kaisen?
After fighting Jogo, Sukuna senses that Megumi Fushiguro’s life is in danger as the young wizard summons Makora. The latter is a familiar (or Shikigami in the original version) which has never yet been mastered by any summoner. Megumi therefore takes a huge risk by summoning him, thus proving that he is ready to sacrifice himself to defeat Haruta Shigemo, the master of plagues sent by Kenjaku.
Nevertheless, Sukuna intervenes and saves Megumi’s life. However, since Makora can adapt to any attack, Sukuna uses devastating techniques as well as Territory Expansion. Makora is then defeated, but the entire Shibuya district is also destroyed, causing the deaths of thousands of people. It is by far the greatest tragedy in history, and Sukuna is largely responsible for it.
