On Friday, July 12, 2024, an unofficial confirmation of the release schedule for the month of August 2024 for the popular manga Jujutsu Kaisen was made by @Go_Jover (Myamura), a reputable series leaker and former Twitter user. According to Myamura, the series will only have two chapters released throughout the entire month of August 2024.
Despite appearing to be a small number at first glance, this is actually the highest number of chapters that can be published in Gege’s series and any other in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The complete schedule for the release of Jujutsu Kaisen manga in August is outlined below, along with a detailed explanation for why the series will only have two chapters released.
Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule affected by Obon week holiday, double-issue release traditions
Myamura’s tweet about the Jujutsu Kaisen manga release schedule for August begins by discussing the remaining July releases for the series. The official release for Chapter 263 is scheduled for this Sunday, July 14, 2024. It is important to mention that the chapter is released in Japan on Mondays at 12AM Japanese Standard Time, but Myamura is referring to the “universal”release dates that will apply to most regions around the world.
Similarly, the upcoming July 14 release will be followed by a one-week hiatus, resulting in no chapter being released on Sunday, July 21. The series will resume with chapter 264 on Sunday, July 28, and will continue with chapter 265 on Sunday, August 4. However, there will be a break in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine after this release due to the Obon holiday.
Due to the upcoming double issue release of Weekly Shonen Jump on August 18, there will be no new chapters published on August 11, including Jujutsu Kaisen. The series will resume with chapter 266 on August 18, but will then take its customary break week. As a result, there will be no new chapter on August 25 and the series will not return until September.
Unfortunately, the release dates for the upcoming six weeks are set in stone due to the magazine’s break for Obon holiday and the post-double issue break. This means that there will be no new chapters released during this time, leaving fans with the confirmed schedule for Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which includes four chapters in the next six weeks.
Gege Akutami, the author and illustrator of the original manga series Jujutsu Kaisen, started its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. The series is currently still ongoing and is published regularly. Most recently, it has been confirmed that the ongoing Shinjuku Showdown arc will be the final arc of the series.
The anime adaptation of the series was produced by MAPPA Studios and first aired in Japan in October 2020. The initial season consisted of 24 episodes and concluded in March 2021. The second season premiered in July 2023, with a total of 23 episodes and ending in December 2023. Production for the third season is currently underway.
