The epic battle between Gojo and Sukuna is a significant moment in the narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen, on par with the highly anticipated weekly release of episodes for the Shibuya Incident arc. Despite Sukuna emerging as the victor and Gojo’s alleged demise, it continues to be a widely debated subject among fans of both individuals.
Throughout the series, Jujutsu Kaisen has delved into various themes and their contrasting counterparts, such as the relationship dynamics between Yuji and Mahito or Yuji and Sukuna. These themes are consistently present and are epitomized in the intense battle between Gojo and Sukuna.
Please be aware that this article includes significant spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen series and represents the author’s personal viewpoints.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo vs Sukuna – The Ultimate Battle of Talent vs Hard Work
The debate between talent and hard work has been a frequent topic of discussion, particularly in action-oriented series. This was also evident in the Jujutsu Kaisen series following chapter 236, where conversations regarding Sukuna and Gojo as representations of talent versus hard work began to surface.
Despite prior beliefs that Gojo was the most skilled, the unveiling of Sukuna’s true form during his encounter with Kashimo completely shifted the perspective. Sukuna’s Heian Era appearance, featuring four arms and an extra mouth on his stomach, became known to all after the confrontation.
The unveiling was succeeded by discussions about Sukuna being the “ideal sorcerer”due to his numerous sets of arms and mouths, which enabled him to simultaneously execute multiple cursed techniques and participate in conventional combat.
This confirmed that Sukuna’s destiny was to become the strongest, as he possessed almost all the necessary attributes in his favor. Even his cursed technique was specifically designed for battle. On the other hand, Gojo’s circumstances are noticeably distinct.
Despite being born with the Infinity Technique and the Six Eyes, which made him inherently overpowered, he did not possess Special Grade abilities or reach his final level of power during his formative years.
Gojo quickly gained an understanding of the reverse cursed technique after his enlightenment, and diligently worked on automating his infinity barrier and perfecting the technique to preserve his mental faculties.
Undoubtedly, Satoru Gojo stands out as one of the rare individuals from the Gojo clan who has achieved power on par with Sukuna. There is a high likelihood that he is the most formidable member of the Gojo clan to have ever lived, as evidenced by his unwavering belief in being able to defeat Mahoraga with just one Hollow Purple. This showcases his superiority over past members of his clan, especially since one of them fell to Mahoraga’s might.
The Gojo vs. Sukuna battle is further evidence of Gojo’s dedication and Sukuna’s natural ability. Gojo was able to quickly heal his exhausted domain expansion by utilizing the reverse cursed technique, a skill he has honed through years of practice on his own mind.
Despite Sukuna being hailed as the “perfect being”for sorcery on multiple occasions, there has been no mention of similar praises for Gojo.
It can be inferred from all of this that Sukuna was inherently destined to be the perfect and most powerful sorcerer, whereas Gojo had to put in effort to attain his position as the strongest sorcerer.
Concluding Remarks
The true explanation for Sukuna possessing multiple sets of arms and mouths remains a mystery, as the absence of his backstory only adds to the complexity of the discussion. It is highly likely that upcoming chapters of the series will delve into a flashback and unveil the true origins of Sukuna.
The upcoming chapter 264 of Jujutsu Kaisen is set to be released on July 28, 2024, and can be accessed for reading on Shueisha’s MANGA Plus platform.
