Jujutsu Kaisen: Megumi’s Loss of His Trump Card and Cursed Technique

The release date for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 is August 19, 2024, however, spoilers for the chapter have already been leaked. One possible factor leading to the King of Curses’ downfall is the failure of the Ten Shadow Technique. Additionally, Sukuna can no longer rely on Megumi’s ultimate move, the Divine General.

The reason behind Fushigoro Megumi’s efforts to eliminate his cursed technique could be to prevent the King of Curses from gaining an advantage in their final battle. With the Ten Shadow Technique being Sukuna’s ultimate weapon, its deactivation could force the King of Curses to seek alternative methods to defeat Itadori.

Please note: The following article includes possible spoilers from chapter 266 of Jujutsu Kaisen and reflects the author’s personal views.

The spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 began with a conversation between Yuji and Megumi. The sorcerer expressed his desire to build a peaceful world for his sister and shared how spending each day with Itadori and their friends made him feel content. However, despite this, Itadori struggled to find the words to encourage Megumi to continue living.

After the King of Curses activated Hollow Wicker Basket to counter Yuji’s domain expansion, the spoilers returned to the present where Yuji continued his battle against Sukuna. As the two exchanged blows, the spoilers revealed a scene from the past where a young Megumi stood before Itadori, mirroring their first encounter with Gojo.

Itadori mirrored his teacher’s expression, but he wanted to convey to Megumi that his absence would result in a sorrowful existence. This could be the catalyst that roused Megumi from his slumber, and in the next moment, the King of Curses’ body began to sink into a shadow.

Ryomen Sukuna observed that the connection between him and Megumi had been weakened due to the influence of Itadori’s Shrine. As a result, the Ten Shadow Technique and its powerful ace, Divine General Mahoraga, were no longer effective for the King of Curses. However, Itadori’s smile as he watched Megumi bravely fighting back lifted the protagonist’s morale.

Fushigoro inherited the Ten Shadow Technique, a cursed technique passed down through generations of the Zenin clan. The full potential of this technique relies on the user’s ability to effectively combine and utilize various shikigami. In battle, Megumi showcased his strategic prowess and the unique abilities of his shikigami by using them individually or in combination.

Similarly, Ryomen Sukuna utilized this technique in a different manner, utilizing multiple shikigami to create an ultimate beast named Agito. This approach was previously demonstrated in Sukuna’s battle against Gojo Satoru, showcasing his strength as one of the strongest. The same can be said for Mahoraga, as Megumi struggled to control it and Sukuna took advantage of its abilities in his confrontation with Gojo Satoru.

The current situation, in which Megumi’s cursed technique has been rendered useless, may be a result of the sorcerer’s sacrifice of all possible means to weaken the King of Curses, even if it is just slightly. With the next chapter marking the end of the longest arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, it is possible that the King of Curses will meet his demise without the use of Mahoraga or Megumi’s cursed technique in battle.

The Alternative

Another possibility was that Megumi’s cursed energy remained within his soul, causing the King of Curses to believe that his vessel’s cursed technique had become unusable.

This approach would prove to be far more intriguing as it involves Megumi utilizing his lethal weapon, Mahoraga, and Yuji drawing power from his Shrine to launch a dual attack on Sukuna from both the exterior and interior of his body, ultimately bringing about the downfall of the King of Curses.
