Sukuna’s clash with the sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen has been one of the most dynamic and unpredictable battles in the series. While nearly every sorcerer introduced participated in the confrontation against Sukuna, Mei Mei remained one of the few who did not directly engage with him.
Throughout the fight, Mei Mei’s contributions were mainly limited to surveillance and distractions using her crows, leading many fans to perceive her impact as minimal. However, recent spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 suggest that Mei Mei played a crucial role in Yuji’s development and, consequently, Sukuna’s downfall.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Mei Mei’s Critical Role in Sukuna’s Defeat
Mei Mei is one of the most enigmatic and unpredictable characters in Jujutsu Kaisen. She was first introduced during the Kyoto Goodwill Event arc and became a recurring figure throughout the Shibuya Incident arc. Her cursed technique involves the manipulation of crows, which she empowers with cursed energy for reconnaissance and offense. As a strong Grade A sorcerer, she wields an axe as her primary weapon.
Despite her strength compared to other sorcerers like Ino, Mei Mei did not physically participate in the fight against Sukuna, which limited her function to monitoring and support.
This has led many fans to question her overall significance within the story. However, spoilers in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 revealed that the New Shadow Style Simple Domain, essential for Yuji’s development and pivotal in his battle against Sukuna, was challenging to master.
The technique was controlled by several restrictions set by the head of the New Shadow Style group, which required new learners to comply with stringent stipulations. The Simple Domain, a barrier technique, allowed for Yuji’s domain creation and enhanced his resilience against Sukuna, making it crucial in Yuji’s evolution and Sukuna’s ultimate defeat.
Mei Mei’s elimination of the former head of the New Shadow Style paved the way for Kusakabe to assume leadership and lift the restrictions, allowing Yuji to acquire the technique. This development positioned Mei Mei as a vital player in Sukuna’s downfall, Yuji’s advancement, and Megumi’s survival, all tied to Yuji mastering domain techniques, excluding Yuta and Gojo.
Final Thoughts
The emergence of the New Shadow Style as an influential force rivaling the three major jujutsu families represents one of the most significant lore revelations in Jujutsu Kaisen. With Kusakabe now at the helm of the New Shadow Style, Mei Mei noted the decline of both the Gojo and Kamo clans.
The Kamo clan faced destruction at the hands of Kenjaku, who eliminated the clan head, while the fate of the Gojo clan remains unexplored. Given that the birth of a Gojo clan member possessing the Six Eyes is a rare but recurring occurrence, upcoming chapters may delve deeper into this clan or depict Gojo’s return in the narrative.
