On Thursday, spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 were released, hinting at the potential comeback of Gojo Satoru in a grand fashion. Nevertheless, a popular theory among fans speculates that it may not actually be Gojo, but instead his ancestor Michizane Sugawara. As the chapter drew to a close, a mysterious figure prevented Sukuna from unleashing his Domain technique.
The appearance of this figure has caused many to speculate that it may be Gojo’s ancestor, Sugawara, seeking revenge. Given Kenjaku’s ability to reincarnate sorcerers from different eras, it is not unlikely that this theory has been developed. While fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of the white-haired sorcerer, they may be surprised by an even more significant revelation.

Possible Next Opponent for Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen: Michizane Sugawara, Ancestor of Gojo’s with Vengeful Intentions
The Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 spoilers reveal that Gege Akutami may have granted fans’ wishes for the reappearance of Gojo Satoru. The enigmatic character bears a striking resemblance to Gojo and the narrator’s words, “The one he buried with his own hands…the Ghost of the Strongest,”further supports this possibility.
Despite the indications of a potential Gojo comeback, a thought-provoking theory regarding X presents a different viewpoint. According to @ABHISHE56368211, a user of X, the enigmatic being may not be Gojo after all, but rather his predecessor, Michizane Sugawara.
In Jujutsu Kaisen 0, it was revealed that Michizane Sugawara is a distant relative of Gojo and Yuta Okkotsu. Known as one of the Big Three Vengeful Spirits, he held a prominent position in the Jujutsu world. This theory suggests that the silhouette seen may actually be Michizane Sugawara instead of Gojo, which changes the interpretation of the narrator’s words, “The one he buried with his own hands…the Ghost of the Strongest.”
During the fight between Hajime Kashimo and Sukuna, Sukuna also referred to Kashimo as a “ghost.”This could potentially imply that Kashimo was a reincarnated being. This connects to the story of the Culling Games, as Kenjaku was able to resurrect powerful sorcerers from ancient times.
It is likely that Michizane Sugawara, among others who were reincarnated, may have been summoned or returned. He remained unseen, possibly because he purposely kept his whereabouts hidden until now.
According to the lore of Jujutsu Kaisen, the Big Three Vengeful Spirits have been present since the Heian Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jujutsu. They gained notoriety through the terror they instilled in humans after transforming into Curses and committing malevolent acts. Each Curse possessed immense strength and was a formidable opponent for even Sukuna.
Rumors state that they fled to avoid Sukuna and took refuge with other Special Grades. However, it is believed that they have since grown in power to rival even the Demon King. This begs the question – Why has Michizane Sugawara chosen to target Sukuna at this time? There are various plausible explanations for this.
Initially, the Vengeful Spirits are immobile unless a significant event takes place, which could trigger their full might. This significant event may be the Tengen-Humanity Merger that Kenjaku was after. As Sukuna occupies Megumi’s body and Megumi possesses the ability to initiate the merger, the Spirits would view Sukuna as a potential obstacle to their goal of stopping it from happening.
Additionally, despite their distance, Gojo and Sugawara are actually relatives. In fact, it has been revealed in the series that Sugawara also possesses the Six Eyes. If Gojo were to be killed by Sukuna, it could evoke either or both of these reactions in Sugawara – curiosity about who would be capable of killing someone with the Six Eyes, or anger towards the brutal death of their family member. The latter emotion is understandable, considering that Gojo was the first person in 400 years to be born with both the Six Eyes and the Limitless.
Final Thoughts
The theory put forth by the individual from X does seem believable. After all, there are few who could intimidate Ryomen Sukuna. Additionally, this theory is supported by examples such as the presence of Vengeful Spirits and the mention of Kashimo as a “ghost.”
It appears that Akutami has once again delivered a mind-bending twist. Chapter 260 may ultimately determine the fate of the Demon King. Should it be revealed to be Gojo, the timely assistance of Shoko Ieiri and Ui Ui will prove crucial. On the other hand, if the new character is indeed Sugawara, it will undoubtedly add an intriguing element to the story.
