In the 2019 Winter issue of Jump GIGA, manga creator Gege Akutami delighted fans by sharing a special holiday illustration of his series’ main trio—Yuji Itadori, Nobara Kugisaki, and Megumi Fushiguro.

Despite the excitement and admiration from fans upon seeing the illustration, they couldn’t help but notice the mysterious sword in Yuji’s hand. Many speculated that the sword would play a significant role in the series’ future, yet it has yet to make an appearance.

The foreshadowing in the illustration for Megumi’s scarf has been confirmed as it has now come to pass. The scarf, as depicted in the illustration, bears the same lines as Ryomen Sukuna’s body, indicating that it was a hint of the King of Curses possessing Megumi.

Therefore, based on the recent developments in the manga involving Yuji Itadori, many fans have begun to speculate that the sword he wields is connected to his newly acquired ability, Blood Manipulation. Many believe that Yuji will soon be able to materialize a sword made of blood using this technique.

Numerous fans have also speculated that this particular sword will be summoned for the sole purpose of defeating Ryomen Sukuna. This could potentially lead to Yuji utilizing a combination of Blood Manipulation and another Cursed Technique. As a result, the blood-formed sword may acquire the title of a “Sukuna slaying sword.”However, supporters may have to patiently await any clues or developments within the manga before being able to continue theorizing on this possibility.

Despite some fans speculating that the sword was a foreshadowing, there are others who firmly believe this to be true, citing the historical background of the Ainu people of Japan. The Ainu were the indigenous people of Japan and were eventually assimilated into society by force.

According to their epic, there was once a sword known as the Kutuna Shirka, also referred to as Itadorimaru no Kyoku or Itadorimaru. Due to its similarity to Yuji’s name, fans are convinced that Gege Akutami drew inspiration from the Ainu people for Yuji’s character. As these theories continue to gain momentum, it is hoped that the manga series will either confirm or debunk them in the near future.
