Jujutsu Kaisen Official Translation Confuses Fans, Yuta’s Cursed Technique Under Scrutiny

The recent chapter 267 of the official translation of Jujutsu Kaisen once again left fans puzzled. This time, it was Yuta’s Cursed Technique that was affected, adding to the recurring confusion faced by readers every few chapters. This phenomenon continues to make it difficult to understand the intended message.

The events of Chapter 267 shed light on Sukuna’s final finger and Yuta’s ability to copy the Demon King’s technique. Although the initial reveal was fascinating, the subsequent details left some uncertainty about their significance. Let’s take a closer look at what occurred.

Yuta Okkotsu becomes latest victim of Jujutsu Kaisen translation mistakes

At the start of chapter 267, the official translation of Jujutsu Kaisen showed Yuta (in Gojo’s body) informing Gojo (in Yuta’s body) that he planned to have Rika consume Sukuna’s last finger in order to Copy his “Malevolent Shrine.”This caused some confusion as readers began to reconsider the true power of Yuta’s Copy technique.

According to the lore of the series, Yuta has the ability to Copy Cursed Techniques (CT) from other sorcerers, but not their Domains. However, there is a mistake in referencing Sukuna’s abilities, as his Cleave and Dismantle techniques are being referred to as “Shrine”instead of his Malevolent Shrine. This is not the first instance of the Jujutsu Kaisen official translation being inaccurate.

In chapter 248, there were two occasions where the translations differed. The first involved Sukuna’s Kamutoke, which was referred to as “Supreme Martial Solution,”causing dissatisfaction among fans. Later in the chapter, Sukuna mentions his deep understanding of Yuji due to their coexistence. However, the official translation of Jujutsu Kaisen takes a different approach, using “flesh”instead of “body”and translating “I come back”in a way that implies Sukuna is speaking about himself, which was not the intended meaning.

Upon revisiting a previous chapter, it was noticed that Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 247 also contained a mistranslation. The official translation deviated from mentioning Mahoraga’s ability to adapt to Gojo Satoru’s infinity and instead focused on the “Malevolent Shrine’s adaptation”being carefully crafted. As a result, fans were once again disappointed with this discrepancy.

Two more examples are present in chapter 245, the first occurring when Kinji Hakari confronts Uraume. In the official English translation of Jujutsu Kaisen, Uraume is misgendered as “her”instead of “they,”despite being reincarnated in the body of Shiori Himi with an unspecified gender and continuing to be referred to as they/them. Additionally, during the trial scene, “Shinjuku”is mistakenly mentioned instead of “Shibuya.”

In the end, the battle between the strongest fighters in Jujutsu Kaisen was also marred by a mistranslated line. The highly anticipated fight between Gojo and Sukuna was considered one of the most significant in the series. In their clash of Domains, Gojo was depicted saying, “With regard to cursed technique, I’m overwhelmingly stronger.”However, this did not accurately convey his true belief. The true meaning was lost in translation, and the correct line should have been, “When it comes down to it, my Limitless is far superior.”
