Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna’s Imitation of Gojo’s Hand Sign Could Have Scientific Basis

Despite the introduction of various mechanics in Jujutsu Kaisen, such as binding vows, heavenly restrictions, and cursed techniques, domain expansions continue to be one of the most fascinating elements of their power system.

Throughout the narrative of Jujutsu Kaisen, multiple domain expansions have been unveiled, each requiring a distinct hand sign from its wielder. Following his battle with Satoru Gojo, Sukuna’s domain was not frequently seen, but it was reactivated in chapter 258 with a time limit of 99 seconds.

Despite the significant changes in the appearance of the domain expansion, fans were most intrigued by Sukuna’s use of a hand sign that resembled Gojo’s.

Please note: This article includes spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

Satoru Gojo’s domain expansion, cursed technique, and possession of the Six Eyes have always been some of the most fascinating elements of Jujutsu Kaisen. In chapter 258, Sukuna made the decision to reopen his domain for the first time since his intense battle with Gojo. Despite the previously established rules regarding the activation of domain expansions, several of them were bent during the epic showdown between Gojo and Sukuna.

During their battle, Gojo and Sukuna both utilized binding vows to alter the conditions of their respective domains, often opening and closing them repeatedly. Despite the ever-changing regulations, the hand signs remained the only constant in determining a domain expansion. In chapter 258, Sukuna mimicked Gojo’s hand signs to activate his own domain.

Despite the lack of explanation, the key to understanding this may lie in the mechanics of Gojo’s domain. This is because Satoru Gojo’s domain sets itself apart from others due to his extraordinary physical attribute known as the Six Eyes.

According to Sukuna, cursed techniques are imprinted in the pre-frontal cortex, which is responsible for information processing in the Cerebral Cortex. This implies that Gojo may be using his Occipital Lobe for his domain, despite what is commonly believed. Although his technique is still infused in the barrier, the guaranteed hit comes from his Six Eyes and, therefore, his Occipital Lobe.

Gojo’s sure hit is an instantaneous attack that Mahito was only able to partially replicate. Unlike Mahito’s version, there is no activation time for Gojo’s sure hit. The Occipital Lobe is responsible for processing visual information, and with Gojo’s Six Eyes, this region is naturally equipped to handle immense amounts of information, potentially even infinite.

In chapter 258, Sukuna used Gojo’s seal to open a domain, indicating that a different part of the brain was activated. Gojo’s infinity remains, as his cursed technique is not fully utilized within the domain, causing it to become drained upon its termination. One of the components of the barrier is Gojo’s Six Eyes, which serves as its source.

The Six Eyes are known for their ability to process infinite amounts of information, which, when combined with Gojo’s technique, gives him a unique domain. The Six Eyes allow for unlimited information processing, while his Limitless technique allows him to turn this information into a weapon. Gojo’s reputation as the most powerful user of the Six Eyes and Limitless might be due to his advanced understanding of scientific principles, which allows him to continually expand and enhance his technique.

This highlights the importance of Gojo’s Six Eyes in managing the Limitless Technique. In summary, the utilization of the Infinite Void stems from Gojo’s Six Eyes, strengthened by the Limitless Technique within the barrier, enabling him to transform the information he perceives into a weapon.

Sukuna’s ability to utilize Gojo’s hand seals, which are specifically linked to his Occipital Lobe, demonstrates his understanding of this concept, allowing him to activate his own domain through this particular region. This clarifies the reason for the multitude of eyes on his domain shrine and also explains Sukuna’s possession of four eyes.

Conclusion

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is currently on hiatus, with the next chapter set to be released on May 12, 2024. The explanation for Sukuna’s use of Gojo’s hand signs has not been disclosed, leaving open the possibility that Sukuna was merely imitating Gojo’s gestures to taunt Yuji.
