Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna’s Reason for Saving Megumi in Shibuya is Perfectly Logical

The Shibuya Incident arc marked a peak for Jujutsu Kaisen, with the Sukuna vs. Mahoraga battle playing a significant role. The fight also introduced a rare scenario in which Sukuna unexpectedly saves Megumi Fushiguro using the Reverse Cursed Technique projection, as explained in the manga.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, this was a significant moment as it revealed that Reverse Cursed Technique projection has the power to kill Curses with just one shot. This proved to be crucial in Sukuna’s efforts to protect Megumi from Mahoraga. While some may argue that Sukuna, known for his selfish nature, possessing the ability to heal others is a plot hole or convenient plot device, it could also be attributed to his disdain for Curses.

Explaining Sukuna’s Knowledge of Reverse Cursed Technique Projection in Jujutsu Kaisen and its Relevance to His Character

During the Shibuya Incident arc, Megumi Fushiguro found himself backed into a corner and resorted to summoning Mahoraga in a moment of desperation. This led to chaos being unleashed by the summoned entity. Megumi was ultimately saved by Sukuna, who had ulterior motives as seen in the manga, thus his actions during the event can be justified.

Despite his selfish and vicious nature, many fans are left wondering how he is able to utilize the Reverse Cursed Technique projection to heal others.

Potentially, the most plausible reason for this is that author Gege Akutami intended for Sukuna to save Megumi, thus the King of Curses required this ability. However, fans can also speculate on the matter. This battle in particular was mentioned to be one where the Reverse Cursed Technique projection could eradicate Curses in a single attack, providing a logical explanation for Sukuna’s familiarity with this skill.

Despite Sukuna’s disdain for Curses in the series, evident in his interactions with Mahito where he referred to him as a “mere Curse”, it is highly likely that the most powerful sorcerer in history, Sukuna, learned the Reverse Cursed Technique projection as a means to eliminate Curses without facing significant obstacles.

Many Jujutsu Kaisen fans who only watch the anime may not know why Sukuna is interested in Megumi Fushiguro, but it is actually due to his powerful abilities. As a member of the Zen’in clan, Megumi possesses the ability to summon Shikigami, a Cursed Technique that the King of Curses finds incredibly valuable and practical.

As a result, Sukuna had devised a plan for Yuji Itadori to continue consuming the former’s fingers, enhancing his powers and ultimately compelling Megumi to consume one as well. This would grant Sukuna control over Megumi’s body. Utilizing powerful Shikigami like Mahoraga, Sukuna was able to triumph over and defeat Satoru Gojo in their legendary manga showdown within Megumi’s body.

Final thoughts

Sukuna’s ability to use the Reverse Cursed Technique projection in Jujutsu Kaisen is most likely due to Akutami’s intention for him to save Megumi. However, it is also possible that Sukuna acquired this skill with ease in order to defeat Curses.
