Jujutsu Kaisen: the link between Miguel and Yuta becomes clearer

The official Jujutsu Kaisen guide answers fans’ burning questions regarding the connection between Miguel and Yuta.

Both Miguel and Yuta Okkotsu were introduced in the anime film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Yuta was the protagonist in the prequel, while Miguel had the role of secondary antagonist. However, both stole the show for different reasons. For his part, Yuta realized his full potential and defeated Suguru Geto, while on the other hand, Miguel made his mark by managing to emerge alive from his confrontation with the famous Satoru Gojo.

In Jujutsu Kaisen, it is revealed that Yuta is in Africa, training with Miguel. A surprising revelation to say the least, since the two belonged to enemy factions. However, the official manga guide provided some explanation as to how the Bane Master became Yuta’s mentor.

In the official guide, Jujutsu Kaisen creator Gege Akutami answers a fan’s question who was wondering about the connection between Miguel and Yuta. The two characters were notably present on the cover of chapter 33 of the manga. That’s why the fan asked if Miguel was captured by the Tokyo School of Exorcism after his fight with Gojo.

Akutami then reveals that Miguel was not captured by the Exorcism School. Instead, it was Gojo who found him after the fight and forced him to train Yuta. This is how Miguel found himself taking charge of Yuta’s training and taking him with him to his homeland in Africa.

This information clarifies the connection between Miguel and Yuta a little more. The mangaka also confirms that Gojo recognized Miguel’s power, because otherwise, the S-class exorcist would never have trusted him to train Yuta. This is also confirmed by Akutami’s second response, which simply revealed that the plague master was strong, without further explanation on the matter.

Although readers are not given more context about Miguel and his past, the only thing certain is that he is a powerful individual, as evidenced by Gojo and the mangaka’s trust in him. A power which is, however, not necessarily recognized by the entire community.

Miguel will fight Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 255, which will be available on MANGA Plus starting March 31, 2024.
