Jujutsu Kaisen: The Reason Sukuna Didn’t Use Flames Against Gojo Revealed

The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, chapter 259, shared some major spoilers. These included the unfortunate demise of the beloved character Choso and the highly-anticipated comeback of Aoi Todo, a fan-favorite character. Chapter 259 primarily delved into the history between Choso and Yuji, also uncovering the detail that Yuji had swapped souls with Yuta during their training.

In Chapter 259, fan theories about Sukuna’s cooking motive for his techniques were further explored and the secret behind his fire arrow technique was revealed. The chapter provided intricate details about the incantations necessary for Sukuna to use the fire arrow, which acts as the source of heat for his techniques.

The current output and range of Sukuna’s domain also governs the fire arrow’s output, making it an unfeasible option. During his battle against Gojo, Sukuna was forced to continuously modify these conditions, rendering the fire arrow ineffective.

Even a year after the Gojo vs Sukuna battle concluded in chapter 235, it continues to be a topic of intense discussion among fans, leading up to the release of chapter 259. Numerous theories have been proposed by fans, with some suggesting that Sukuna deliberately held back his full strength in the fight and did not use his fire arrow against Gojo.

Despite the widespread belief that Gojo’s infinity would have nullified the arrow’s effects, it is undeniable that Sukuna managed to defeat him without resorting to his most powerful attack.

Previously, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were puzzled by the conditions associated with Sukuna’s fire arrow. Some believed it to be a basic skill stored in his shrine, while others drew comparisons between Sukuna’s techniques and various cooking stages due to his references to fish and chopping boards in his dialogue.

The controversial translation of his domain expansion as “Malevolent Kitchen”rather than “Malevolent Shrine”sparked doubts. In Chapter 259, fans’ speculations about Sukuna’s techniques having a chef/kitchen theme were validated. The fire arrow symbolizes the stove where targets are scorched and “finished”after Sukuna finishes the “cutting process”by reciting cleave and dismantle.

The strength of the flames produced by Sukuna is determined by the specifications of his current domain. In his confrontation with Gojo, Sukuna continuously altered the power and reach of his domain, consequently impacting the potency and circumstances of his fire arrows. It is worth mentioning that although Sukuna had the option to use the fire arrow during the fight, he chose not to as it would have been ineffective against Gojo due to the modifications made to his domain.

As a result, Sukuna successfully sealed away the fire arrow and ultimately utilized the world-cutting slash to defeat Gojo. Despite Gojo’s infinity being weakened during the battle, it has still been recognized as one of the most powerful techniques. The infinity barrier has consistently proven its capability to block various projectiles and beam attacks.

Moreover, infinity is not a tangible or mental obstacle; it is a method that continuously widens the gap between the user and their target. This effectively traps the target in a state of immobility as they are unable to reach the user of infinity due to the unchanging distance between them. Even Sukuna’s most powerful fire arrow would have been unable to penetrate infinity, unlike the world-cutting slash that led to the demise of Satoru Gojo.
