Jujutsu Kaisen Theory Proves Yuji Is on His Way to Surpass Sukuna

It is evident from the current events in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga that the final arc is nearing its end. Fans can anticipate Yuji’s upcoming awakening in his fight against Ryomen Sukuna, which could potentially lead him to surpass the King of Curses.

Despite the Jujutsu Kaisen manga heavily relying on Sukuna since the beginning, Yuji has mainly served as a supporting role to advance the plot. As the story nears its climax, it appears that Yuji will break away from this role and put an end to Sukuna’s destructive cycle.

This likelihood has been heavily hinted at by a recent Jujutsu Kaisen theory proposing that Yuji Itadori will soon surpass Ryomen Sukuna.

Based on a theory proposed by anime YouTuber @Weeb, it can be argued that Yuji Itadori is the complete opposite of Ryomen Sukuna. This is evident through Yuji’s possession of Sukuna’s shrine, yet he displays distinct differences that suggest he is a stark contrast to the King of Curses.

This is made clear by his shrine attack. When Sukuna employs his shrine attacks, they occur suddenly and without any forewarning to his intended victims. In contrast, Yuji’s Shrine technique provides a warning to the target in the form of scissor-like apparitions that appear before cutting the targeted area.

According to @Weeb, the contrast in their approaches was consistent with the personalities of Yuji Itadori and Ryomen Sukuna. While Sukuna is known for his malevolent nature and lack of concern for his victims, Itadori tends to attempt to defuse conflicts. This can be seen when Itadori attempted to communicate with Sukuna after he possessed Megumi, trying to persuade him against causing destruction.

Having established Yuji and Sukuna as complete opposites, it is worth considering Yuji’s potential solution to counter Sukuna’s Divine Flames. As Ui Ui has previously explained, Yuji is only able to switch souls twice a month. Considering the limited time remaining until the showdown in Shinjuku, Yuji will only have two opportunities to switch souls. It is likely that the first soul-switch candidate will be Kusakabe, leaving a high possibility that the second person could be either Yuta or Hakari.

The reason for this is that both characters possessed incredible domain expansion abilities and could have exchanged bodies in order to assist Yuji in understanding domain expansion or mastering his maximum technique. If such a scenario were to occur, fans can anticipate witnessing Yuji execute a game-changing move, one that could potentially counter Sukuna’s Divine Flames.

According to @Weeb, Yuji Itadori could potentially access Divine Flames, with a water-based version likely due to his inherent nature. Throughout the manga series, Yuji Itadori has consistently been associated with water and bodies of water.

When Yuji first utilized Black Flash, the manga illustrated his drool (a droplet) falling through the entire page. This remained consistent even when he employed his ultimate Black Flash against Mahito, as he appeared to be surrounded by water. The same was observed when he used the technique against Sukuna. In the final instance, the manga depicted Yuji standing over an ocean while Aoi Todo explained Cursed Energy to him.

It is apparent from these examples that the manga had already hinted at the nature of Yuji Itadori’s cursed technique. This is supported by the fact that Sukuna is often portrayed as a demon engulfed in flames, which serves as a stark contrast to the depiction of Yuji’s technique. This could suggest that Yuji may possess a Divine Flames-like ability based on water, potentially positioning him to surpass his enemy, Ryomen Sukuna.
